Hello Living with psoriasis for 30 years and managing diabetes for 20 is no small feat. Honestly, I can only imagine how draining that must feel sometimes—especially with the flares happening almost all year. The fact that you’re on methotrexate also tells me your psoriasis has been especially tough to control. Still, don’t give up hope. Ayurveda can safely support your current treatment, helping steady your skin, cut down on flare-ups, and make daily life a bit easier.

YOUR SITUATION

Age: 66 Psoriasis: Ongoing for about 30 years (nearly constant flares) Diabetes: 20 years Current medicine: Methotrexate Main concern: Long-term control and safer support options

This is a deep-rooted, chronic illness, so the aim is to manage and stabilize—not chase a quick fix.

AYURVEDIC VIEW

In Ayurveda, psoriasis lines up with what’s called Ekakushtha or Kitibha Kushtha. It usually boils down to a Vata–Kapha imbalance, with Pitta flaring up during outbreaks. There’s also a blood impurity (Rakta dushti) and, after so many years, deeper blockages in the body’s channels. Diabetes (Prameha) adds another layer, making skin healing slower and immunity weaker.

Given: - How long you’ve had these issues - Your age - Methotrexate use

Strong detox or intense Panchakarma isn’t the way to start.

SAFETY FIRST Don’t stop methotrexate abruptly. Use Ayurveda as a support, not a replacement—unless your doctors (both allopathic and Ayurvedic) agree and monitor you closely. Liver safety matters a lot here.

TREATMENT GOALS

- Lessen the intensity and duration of flares - Soothe dryness, scaling, and itching - Support liver and blood health, safely - Help the skin heal better, even with diabetes - Over time, and only with supervision, reduce the need for stronger meds

SAFE AND GENTLE AYURVEDIC SUPPORT

INTERNAL REMEDIES

1. Guduchi (Giloy) Ghana Vati Take 1 tablet twice a day after meals. It helps balance immunity, is safe for diabetics, and supports the liver.

2. Manjistha Tablet Once daily after food. Works on blood purification.

3. Arogyavardhini Vati 1-0-1 Supports liver function and digestion.

Skip any heavy metal-based Ayurvedic medicines unless a doctor prescribes and watches over you.

EXTERNAL CARE (DON’T SKIP THIS)

- Every day, apply coconut oil with a few drops of neem oil right on the psoriasis patches—twice a day if you can. It takes the edge off dryness, scaling, and itching. - Use only lukewarm water to bathe. - Don’t use regular soaps on affected skin; stick to mild herbal cleansers.

DIET & LIFESTYLE (SUPER IMPORTANT)

Strictly avoid: - Curd at night - Fermented foods - Bakery products - Red meat - Alcohol - Extra sugar and refined carbs

Try to include: - Warm, freshly cooked meals - Bitter veggies (like bottle gourd, ridge gourd) - Moong dal - A little ghee - Plenty of water

WHEN TO CONSIDER PANCHAKARMA

Only if: - Your liver tests are stable - Diabetes is well managed

And then, start with gentle treatments—like Takradhara, external herbal pastes, and oil massages (abhyanga). Skip the strong stuff (like Virechana or Raktamokshana) unless you’re in a proper clinic with expert supervision.

WHAT TO EXPECT

After 30 years, a total cure isn’t realistic. But you can see fewer flares, less itching and scaling, and generally more comfortable skin. Sleep and quality of life can get better, too. It just takes steady, patient work.

REGULAR TESTS (DON’T SKIP THESE)

- Liver function (LFT) - Blood sugar (HbA1c) - Kidney function

You’ve already shown real resilience handling this for decades. With careful, integrative care, you can make psoriasis less aggressive and more manageable—even now.

Warm Regards Dr. Snehal Vidhate

Since you have had this for 30 years and are on Methotrexate, the disease is deeply rooted in your tissues. The goal is management and reducing flare-up frequency, not an overnight cure. Since you are diabetic, we must avoid liquid syrups (Arishtas) that contain sugar.

Ayurvedic Prescription 1. Kaishore Guggulu: 2 tablets twice daily.
Time: After food with warm water.

2. Arogyavardhini Vati: 2 tablets twice daily. Time: After food.

3. Mahamanjisthadi Kashayam (Decoction): 15ml mixed with 45ml warm water. Time: Twice daily on an empty stomach.

External Therapy 777 Oil (Wrightia Tinctoria): Apply strictly to the affected patches 30 minutes before bathing and expose the skin to mild morning sunlight for 10 minutes if possible.

Important Medical Instruction Do not stop Methotrexate suddenly. Stopping it abruptly can cause a severe rebound flare-up. Continue it as prescribed by your specialist.

Sugar Control is Key: High blood sugar feeds the skin infection. If your diabetes is uncontrolled, no skin medicine will work. Keep your sugar levels strictly managed.
