- Ichthyosis vulgaris is genetic → there is no proven cure (Ayurvedic or modern). Panchatikta Ghrita is NOT a cure, despite what videos may claim. It may help reduce dryness or itching . - For an 8-year-old: It should not be given long-term on your own. If used at all, it must be low dose, short duration. - Possible issues: digestive upset, loose stools, heaviness (important since you mentioned occasional digestion problems). - Best-proven help: Daily thick moisturizers, especially right after bathing Gentle soaps, lukewarm baths Regular follow-up with a dermatologist So , Panchatikta Ghrita can be considered supportive at best, not a cure, and not safe for unsupervised long-term use in a child.

HELLO, Ichthyosis Vulgaris is a genetic skin condition, meaning the tendency is present from birth and passed through family genes, Because of this, the skin does not shed dead cells normally, Instead of falling off, these cells accumulates and cause -excessive dryness -white or grey scaling -rough, thickened skin -worsening in winter or dry weather It is not contagious, not due to poor hygiene, and not caused by food allergy or infection Ayurveda describes this condition under kustha roga, especially resembling Ekakushta/Vicharchika WHY DOES IT HAPPEN ACCORDING TO AYURVEDA? 1) BEEJA DOSHA (GENETIC FACTOR) -The condition originates from the genetic blueprint -Ayurveda accepts that such conditions are long standing and recurrent 2) DOSHA IMBALANCE -Vata dosha-> dryness, scaling, roughness -Kapha Dosha-> thickened skin, slow renewal -Mild Pitta involvement-> altered skin metabolism 3) TISSUE INVOLVEMENT -Rasa dhatu= poor skin hydration -Rakta dhatu= impaired skin nourishment -Mamsa dhatu= abnormal skin structure Because skin is a reflection of internal nourishment, treatment must be both internal and external TREATMENT GOALS -reduce dryness and scaling -improve skin softness and flexibility -reduce flare ups and severity -improve skin nourishment from inside -support digestion and metabolism -maintain long term quality of life Ayurveda works by changing how the disease expresses itself, not by calming to erase genes INTERNAL MEDICATIONS 1) PANCHATIKTA GHRITA= 1/2 tsp once daily with warm water for 6 weeks followed by a gap, repeated cycles not meant for continuous daily use for months in children = improves skin cell turnover, nourishes deeper tissue, reduces dryness without harming digestion, especially useful in chronic, genetic, dry skin disorders 2) KHADIRARISHTA= 5ml + 5 ml water once daily after meals for 6 weeks only =improves skin quality, reduces scaling tendency, supports rakta dhatu 3) GANDHAK RASAYANA= 1/2 tab once daily after lunch with warm water for 4 weeks = improves skin cell turnover, reduces roughness and flaking 4) TRIPHALA CHURNA = 1/4 tsp at bedtime with warm water =improves digestion, prevents toxin buildup affecting skin EXTERNAL TREATMENT 1) KSHEERBALA TAILA= deeply nourishes dry skin, reduces scaling and roughness -warm slightly, apply all over body once daily, leave 20-30 min, bathe with lukewarm water 2) COCONUT OIL= keeps skin soft, prevents cracking, excellent daily moisturizer =apply 2-3 times daily on dry areas, especially after bath 3) NALPAMRADI TAILA (if discoloration or patchy appearance present) -2-3 times per week only not daily 4) SOAP/ CLEANSER SUGGESTION -avoid chemical soaps -use= mild herbal soap, soap free cleanser, bath once daily only DIET -warm, freshly cooked meals -rice, wheat, mung dal -ghee in small quantity -cooked vegetabes- pumpkin, bottle gourd, carrot -seasonal fruits Proper digestion directly improves skin quality AVOID -dry, packaged snacks -excess bakery items -refined sugar -cold milk at night -carbonated drinks LIFESTYLE AND DAILY CARE -avoid very frequent bathing -avoid very hot or very cold water -apply moisturiser multiple Times daily -keep nails short to prevent scratching -use cotton clothing -maintain good hydration YOGA AND PRANAYAM For an 8 year old only simple practices -deep breathing -Anulom vilom -Simple stretching =improves circulation, supports digestion, reduces stress (stress worsens skin conditions) HOME REMEDIES -coconut oil + a pinch of turmeric for local dryness -lukewarm water bathing -humidifier in winter -avoid harsh soaps and scrubs Ichthyosis Vulgaris is manageable, not dangerous Your child can live a completely normal, healthy life Ayurveda aims for -long term symptom reduction -skin comfort -fewer flare ups Consistency is more important than aggressive treatment Always prefer cyclical treatment , not continuous medication DO FOLLOW HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL THANK YOU DR. Hello Totally get where you’re coming from as a parent. When your kiddo has Ichthyosis Vulgaris (that dry, scaly skin thing they got from the family), you want to treat it completly not just applying cream YOUR CONCERN Your son’s got: – Ichthyosis Vulgaris (that dry, scaly skin thing) – Kinda dry and scaly skin – Got it from the fam (dad’s side) – Otherwise, he’s all good – You were wondering if Panchatikta Ghrita could fix it WHAT AYURVEDA SAYS: In Ayurveda, Ichthyosis is like Twak Rukshata with Beejadosha. Which means: – His genes (Beeja) are making him dry – Vata & Pitta are calling the shots with his skin – His skin ain’t making enough oil (Sneha) – His body can’t hold onto water – It’s not about his blood – It’s not catching – It’s just how his dryness is wired So, we’re not trying to fix his genes – we’re trying to get his skin working right and calming down its reaction. SO, ABOUT THAT PANCHATIKTA GHRITA: Panchatikta Ghrita can help in Ichthyosis in managing symptoms It’s for: – Psoriasis – Eczema – Skin issues where your body’s attacking itself – Pitta-Kapha problems Ichthyosis is more of a Vata-dry thing, not so much about being inflamed. But I strongly suggest to go for panchakarma 1.Snehapana followed by virechana This will detoxify his body from within Panchatikta Ghrita Just a tiny bit (½ tsp) with warm water once a day – Helps his skin make oils –Makes his genes behave better – Safe for kids – Makes his skin thicker and keeps it wet Gotta Use Oil externally –Twice a day: jatyadi taila –just have a light application –It’ll change how his skin does its job over time. Food That Fixes Skin Genes:INCLUDE – Ghee – Milk – Dates – Rice – Almond paste – Coconut – Warm food ❌AVOID –Dry snacks – Bakery stuff – Junk food – Cold drinks WILL IT EVER BE FIXED? Since Ichthyosis is in his genes: – It won’t totally disappear – But he can get 90% better – His skin will get soft – Scales will go away – He’ll look like any other kid With the right Ayurveda plan, lots of kids grow up and you can barely even tell they have it. Warm Regards Dr. Snehal Vidhate
