Hi! I’m an assistant to the Ask Ayurveda doctors. I’ve carefully reviewed your question.
I will explain your symptoms through the Ayurvedic perspective so you understand what is happening in your body as a whole.
In Ayurveda, cataracts are often seen as an imbalance in the Pitta dosha, which governs heat and transformation in the body. This imbalance can lead to the accumulation of toxins (ama) and affect the clarity of the lens in the eyes. Weakening of the eye tissues might also be linked to Vata dosha, which controls movement and dryness. An imbalance here can lead to degeneration or cloudiness in the lens.
From an Ayurvedic standpoint, it is important to address these imbalances by focusing on a diet and lifestyle that pacifies Pitta and supports overall eye health. While some herbal remedies, like the use of jayanti leaves, are suggested in traditional practices, their efficacy can vary, and they should be used with caution and under professional guidance.
Ayurveda views cataracts as a systemic issue, not just an isolated eye problem. It emphasizes the importance of maintaining a balanced diet, proper digestion, and stress management to support eye health and overall well-being.
To give doctors a precise and effective treatment plan, your answers to the questions below are essential. Without this information, the recommendations will be more general and less accurate.
Please answer each question as clearly as possible.
1. How long have you been diagnosed with cataracts? Please specify: Less than 6 months, 6 months to 1 year, 1-2 years, or more than 2 years. 2. What symptoms are you experiencing with your cataracts? Choose from: Blurry vision, difficulty seeing at night, sensitivity to light, or no noticeable symptoms. 3. Have you tried any treatments or remedies for your cataracts before? Indicate if this is the first time seeking help, or if you’ve used home remedies, over-the-counter products, or alternative therapies. 4. What is your overall eye health like? Is it good with no other issues, mild issues like dryness or irritation, other eye conditions, or do you experience frequent headaches or eye strain? 5. Every year, every few years, rarely, or never?
Your detailed responses will help us guide you more effectively.
Cataract means clouding of the eye lens. Once it is formed, it cannot be completely reversed by any juice or home remedy. Jayanti leaves juice cannot cure cataract. What you can do now: Do not put any leaf juice directly into eyes It can cause irritation or damage Improve diet: Include carrot, beetroot, green leafy vegetables Take 5 soaked almonds daily Add amla or vitamin C rich foods 1 tsp ghee daily Eye care: Reduce screen time Follow 20-20-20 rule Wash eyes with clean, cool water Triphala churna 3 grams at night with warm water Triphala eye wash (mild, filtered) once daily Cataract progression can be slowed with good diet and eye care, but not completely removed. If vision is getting disturbed in daily activities, surgery is the only effective and safe solution. Do regular eye check-up once in 6–12 months. For proper guidance to slow progression and maintain eye health, you can consult me.
