Hello, a reverse osmotic water purifying device has been set installed in my home. This RO water is the only potable water in my house. The water is acidic and has a very low mineral matter content. Do you suggest to drink this water and cook with it, or minerals should be added before use? which is th ebest way to use this water? What mineral content of water is considered beneficial and healthy? I am a Vata-Pitta person with Vata and Pitta imbalances. Thanks for your answer in advance, Best regards, Judit Koch

Hello Judit koch RO water is safe, but when it becomes two acidic and almost mineral free, it can aggravate both vata and pitta by creating dryness, lightness and digestive sensitivity, so it is better to re-mineralised it lightly before drinking or cooking. The simplest method is adding a pinch of natural mineral. Salt are a few drops of trace mineral solution to each litre or storing the water in a copper or clay vessel for few hours to restore balance, and ideally ever drinking water should have a neutral to slightly alkaline pH to around 7 to 8 and a moderate mineral content of about 80 to 1 50 MG per litre, which supports hydration digestion and nervous system stability without burdening the kidneys

RO water contains less minerals as most of these minerals gets filtered out in the process Best water for drinking is to boil water that is supplied. Bring to boiling point and keep boiling for another 5 minutes, This will kill all bacteria and viruses present . Allow to cool overnight, morning strain in muslin s cloth and use for drinking. The main purpose of filtering is to remove bacteria and viruses., and not minerals. For cooking where heating is done there regular home water can be used as in the process of heating these germs get killed For raw foods like chutney, salads , RO water can be used for cleaning and water utility purpose.

Congratulations on your new water purification system. Reverse osmosis, water can be beneficial in removing impurities, but it may also strip away essential minerals for a vata pitta person like yourself, it is crucial to maintain balance Drinking arrow water might not provide the necessary minerals. Your body needs consider adding mineral drops or using a remineralization filter to finance the mineral content, you can also soak your water with minerals like shilajit to replenish minerals For cooking using RO water is generally fine, but adding some mineral rich water can help balance the mineral content The ideal mineral content in water varies but generally water with moderate levels of calcium, 40 to 80 mg per litre magnesium 20 to 50 mg per litre and potassium 2 to 10 MG per litre is considered beneficial

To balance your vata and pitta focus on drinking, warm mineral, rich water, and include Nourishing food in your diet

RO water, by its nature, has gone through a process where almost all impurities along with beneficial minerals are removed. This typically results in slightly acidic water, which, from an Ayurvedic perspective, might not balance well with Vata-Pitta constitutions like yours. These doshas can be sensitive to certain imbalances, such as acidity.

For both drinking and cooking, it’s recommended to remineralize RO water. Reintroducing essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium can help restore balance not only for the taste but also promotes better health supporting your doshas. Consider using Himalayan or rock salt, which subtly infuse water with essential minerals. Just a pinch can make a significant difference. Hence, before consuming or using it for cooking ensure it passes through a mineral cartridge or manually add minerals.

Water with a healthy mineral content (about 200-400 mg/L) is generally beneficial, assisting with hydration that supports bodily functions including the digestive fire (Agni). This is crucial for balanced digestion affected by Vata and Pitta imbalances. Moreover, slightly alkaline water balances your body’s pH levels.

Also, when using this water for cooking, minerals in food may be leached out; thus enriching water from an Ayurvedic standpoint complements your meals, offsetting this issue.

Remember, monitor how your body reacts. If you experience discomfort such as indigestion or dryness – signs of Vata disturbance – adjusting the mineral supplementation or consulting an Ayurvedic physician could fine-tune the balance.

Be mindful of integrated lifestyle practices like sufficient hydration after meals (but not in excess) can maintain digestive balance. Implement lifestyle activities aligning with your constitution, like regular meal timings, and favoring warm, nourishing beverages over cold can also support hydration and balance for vata-pitta dosha.

Always best to consult a practitioner who understands your body constitution for precise guidance!
