What foods should I eat or avoid with a Pitta constitution and abdominal pain after spicy foods? - #52838

I have a Pitta dominant constitution. What foods and vegetables should I consume and what should be strictly avoided. I feel great abdominal discomfort/ pain after consuming heating/spicy foods. With the onset of summer I have been having severe cramps after eating.

Your symptoms clearly show pitta aggravation, especially triggered by spicy and heating foods, which is more common in summer. Right now focus on cooling and soothing your digestion. In your diet, prefer foods that are light and cooling. You can take rice, wheat, moong dal, and simple khichdi regularly. Vegetables like lauki (bottle gourd), tori (ridge gourd), parwal, pumpkin, cucumber, and leafy greens are good. Fruits like pomegranate, apple, pear, banana, and watermelon (in moderate quantity) are helpful. You can include coconut water, buttermilk (in daytime), and a small amount of ghee daily. These help reduce internal heat and soothe the gut. Strictly avoid spicy, oily, fried, and very sour foods. Avoid excess chilli, pickles, vinegar, fermented foods, and junk food. Reduce tea, coffee, and avoid alcohol. Do not take curd at night. Eat on time and do not skip meals. Take freshly cooked warm food, not very hot. Avoid eating when already very hungry for long time, as it worsens pitta. Drink water at room temperature or slightly cool, but avoid ice-cold water. Lifestyle is also important. Avoid direct sun exposure during peak heat. Sleep on time and avoid late nights. Medicines: Avipattikar churna 3 grams at night with warm water Kamdudha ras 1 tablet twice daily after food Shatavari churna 3 grams twice daily with milk These help reduce acidity, cramps, and pitta imbalance. This approach will gradually reduce your abdominal pain and improve tolerance to food.

Avoid spicy, sour, fried, or overly spicy foods. Food should be warm but not pungent.
