Brain fog and reduced mental clarity for the last year can certainly be associated with menopause, as hormonal changes often affect memory, focus, sleep quality, and mood. However, in Ayurveda we always assess the full root cause rather than assuming it is only menopause. Factors such as aggravated Vata, poor sleep, stress, digestive imbalance (Ama), thyroid disturbance, nutritional deficiency, anxiety, and mental overexertion can also contribute. Regarding Haritaki - In some individuals it can be beneficial, but it should be selected according to constitution (Prakriti), current imbalance (Vikriti), digestion strength, bowel pattern, sleep state, and overall symptoms. For chronic brain fog lasting one year, I would strongly advise not to self-medicate based only on internet suggestions. Proper history taking is important, including: • Sleep quality • Menstrual / menopausal symptoms • Digestion and bowel habits • Stress and anxiety levels • Energy pattern through the day • Existing medications • Thyroid, iron, B12, vitamin D, sugar levels if tested Please book a personal consultation so a detailed history can be taken and an individualized Ayurvedic plan can be prepared for you, including correct herbs, diet, routine, and dosage according to your body type and current imbalance.
Brain fog in menopause = mainly Vata ↑ (dryness, poor focus, insomnia) Pitta fluctuation (hormonal changes) Ama + weak Agni (due to digestive issues) Leads to poor Majja dhatu (nervous system) function Role of Haritaki (Harad) Acts as mild detox + Vata balancing Improves gut → mind connection Helpful especially if constipation / Ama present Dosage Haritaki churna: ¼ – ½ tsp at bedtime with warm water Start low, increase gradually Avoid high dose → may cause excess dryness Better Combined Approach (More Effective) Haritaki + warm water at night (gut cleansing) Brahmi / Shankhpushpi (for memory & clarity) Ashwagandha (for stress + sleep) Lifestyle Early sleep Warm, easy-to-digest diet Daily oil massage 5–10 min Nadi shodhana pranayama
