Hello, Clinical Reality: Medha Vati for Severe Anxiety and Panic Attacks ​Patanjali’s Divya Medha Vati is fundamentally formulated as a Medhya Rasayana (cognitive and memory enhancer) and a mild adaptogen for generalized stress, minor sleeplessness, or mental fatigue.

​It is not sufficient or reliable as a primary treatment for severe anxiety and acute panic attacks. Severe panic attacks represent acute autonomic hyperarousal that requires fast-acting or highly targeted therapeutic interventions. While Medha Vati may offer mild, long-term nervous system support, it will not acutely arrest a severe panic episode. ​ ​The classical ingredients within Medha Vati such as Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), Shankhpushpi (Convolvulus pluricaulis), and Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) are widely utilized in practice and generally safe for long-term use under appropriate supervision. ​However, the formulation also includes Ghodbach/Vacha (Acorus calamus), which contains beta-asarone and requires strict toxicological caution regarding dosage and duration. Furthermore, it incorporates mineral Pishtis (such as Praval Pishti, Jaharmohra Pishti, and Mukta Pishti). While safe when purified according to standard Ayurvedic protocol (Shodhana), their inclusion means the formulation should never be taken over the counter indefinitely without regular clinical re-evaluation of renal and hepatic clearance.
​In the Ayurvedic paradigm, severe anxiety and panic attacks are classified under Manovaha Srota Dusti, primarily driven by a severe aggravation of Vata Dosha (specifically Prana Vayu and Vyan Vayu), which destabilizes the Manas (mind) and disrupts Raja and Tama qualities. This causes erratic movement in the nervous system, manifesting as rapid heart rate, dyspnea, and intense fear. Prescription ​1. Manasamithra Vatakam (Gulika) ​Action: This is the premier classical formulation for severe psychological stress, panic, and Manovikara. It stabilizes Prana Vayu, calms the nervous system, and anchors the mind without causing heavy, non-specific sedation. ​Dose: 1 tablet twice daily. It should ideally be taken after meals alongside a cup of warm cow’s milk (which acts as a Vata-Pitta pacifying Anupana) or warm water.
​2. Kalyanaka Ghritham ​Action: A medicated ghee formulation designed to cross the blood-brain barrier effectively to nourish the Majja Dhatu (nervous tissue) and calm Pitta-Vata induced mental agitation. ​Dose: 5 to 10 grams (approximately 1 to 2 teaspoons) taken on an empty stomach in the morning, followed by a few sips of warm water. ​3. Saraswatharishta (with Gold / Medicated Arishtam) ​Action: A fermented classical tonic that enhances overall neurological resilience, balances Sadaka Pitta, and helps prevent the recurrent threshold configuration that triggers panic attacks. ​Dose: 15 to 20 ml twice daily, mixed with an equal quantity of lukewarm water, strictly after meals.

The only medicine that is helping my Son at the time of the anxiety attack is Calm Mind with the following ingredients. Gotu kola leaves-150mg Ginger Rhizome-30mg Aqueous extracts of: Ashwagandha Roots-100mg Water Hyssop whole- 100mg Licorice roots-50mg Indian valerian Rhizome - 20mg This medicine is no longer available by the seller (Dr. Pankaj Naram), so I am looking for an alternative with the same ingredients. Only Ashwagandha doesn’t help him much when he gets the anxiety attack. Giving him above listed ingredients together helps him. Please let me know if there is any other medicine that is available as a replacement of this medicine with the same ingredients. It would be a great help 🙏 Thanks.

Yes you can use it but it is not the complete therapy. You have to pair it with other medications and lifestyle changes In case of mental conditions you can fight over it only if you are willing to. ??? Anulomvilom and Bhramari Pranayam will help. But you have to do it early in the morning only. ? Donot get yourself into any addictions. ? Donot drink tea or coffee or aerated drinks. ? Reduce screen time… No screen in darkness and 1 hour before you sleep. Consume audio form of data rather than visuals before you sleep. ?? 100 steps after both meals are must. ?? Eat only home cooked food… Avoid outside food, packed and processed food. ?? Prefer natural liquids like fruit juice, coconut water, lemon juice, kokum sharbat over packed ones. ?? Medication: ?? Panchendriya Vardhan Tailam 2 drops in each nostril early in the morning empty stomach. Cap. Memorin(S.G.Phytopharma) 2 caps twice a day before food. Syp. Prasham 4 tsp at bed time with lukewarm water. Tab. Manasmitra Vatak 2 tabs at bed time
