what to do after mastrubation - #39289

Lincoln

I am really confused about what to do after mastrubation. It's been happening a bit too much lately, like I find myself doing it as a stress-relief thing, and I kinda feel guilty about it afterward. I don't know if that's normal or not. I usually just go on with my day, but sometimes I feel a bit drained or anxious after, ya know? Like, I wonder if there's something I should be doing after mastrubation to feel better about it. Last week, I tried to meditate, thinking that might help but I just ended up feeling more restless. I've read a bunch online about it, but everything seems so different — like, some say to just clear your mind, others suggest physical activity, and honestly, I'm just lost! I mean, I don't have any health issues that I know of, but this feels like it could spiral into something if I’m not careful. My friend said there’s Ayurvedic remedies that might help, but I dunno where to start. What to do after mastrubation? Should I just accept it as part of being human or is there some kinda routine I should adopt? Hope this makes sense. Thanks for any advice!

After masturbation, it’s quite common to feel a range of emotions including guilt or anxiety, but it’s important to approach it with a holistic perspective, especially from an Ayurveda standpoint. Ayurveda doesn’t necessarily deem masturbation inherently harmful, but balance is key, as with any activity in life. Overindulgence can disturb doshas, particularly Vata and Pitta, leading to restlessness or a sense of depletion. If you’ve been feeling drained or anxious, focusing on post-activity practices can help restore equilibrium.

Start with grounding activities that pacify Vata. Breathing exercises are beneficial—try Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing), a calming practice that helps reduce anxiety and balance emotions. Spend about 5-10 minutes on this. Next, Savasana (Corpse Pose) or a short, guided relaxation session might help soothe the nervous system, encouraging relaxation and stillness. These don’t need to be long—5 minutes is sufficient to help your body return to a calm state.

Engage in Abhyanga, which is self-massage with warm sesame oil. This practice fosters a sense of nurturing and helps to bring energy back into the body. Warm the oil and apply in circular motions following the natural contours of your body. It can be done for about 10-15 minutes, followed by a warm shower.

Dietary adjustments can also balance doshas and energy levels. Avoid caffeine and sugar post-masturbation as they may exacerbate restlessness. Opt for grounding foods like cooked root vegetables, grains, and lightly spiced meals—these stabilize Vata and Pitta. Consider sipping on herbal teas such as chamomile or ashwagandha to aid relaxation.

Finally, cultivate mindfulness around this activity. Reflect on triggers that lead to frequent indulgence; addressing underlying emotional states is crucial. If meditation felt restless, consider it at a different time in the day when your mind is less agitated. Implementing a routine that includes these elements could harmonize the body and mind, promoting a healthier relationship with this natural aspect of life.

After mastrubation, it’s not uncommon to feel drained or anxious — in Ayurveda, these experiences often connect to imbalances in the doshas. Masturbation can increase Vata dosha, which might explain feelings of restlessness or anxiety afterward. Finding a balanced post-masturbation routine can help in stabilizing these energies.

First, incorporating some form of meditation can be helpful, but it needs to be grounding and calming. Try practicing Nadi Shodhana or alternate nostril breathing for a few minutes; this pranayama technique helps balance energy channels and calm the mind without triggering further restlessness.

Physical activity is another beneficial option — a gentle walk or light stretching can help channel your energy without overstimulating the body. It aids in stimulating the agni (digestive fire) and helps in processing emotions, rejuvenating both body and mind.

Additionally, consider consuming a warm herbal tea, like Ashwagandha or Tulsi, which can aid in soothing the mind and reducing Vata disturbance. Simply steep the herbal tea bag in hot water for 5-10 minutes, and sip slowly. This practice can offer comfort and support emotional equilibrium.

Acknowledge that feeling guilty is not inherently beneficial, but understanding your emotions can be illuminating. Balance your routine with self-care activities that provide a sense of relaxation and grounding. Implementing a consistent schedule with these practices can support your overall well-being and help prevent any feeling of spiraling into negativity.

If your sense of guilt or worry persists, consider consulting with a Siddha-Ayurvedic practitioner who can provide personalized guidance based on your prakriti, addressing not just symptoms, but the root of your concerns.
