What Is MCH Normal Range and How Can Ayurveda Help in Maintaining Healthy Blood Function? - #15075

Evelyn

I recently had some blood tests done, and one of the values that came up was MCH (Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin). The test results indicated that my MCH is on the lower end of the normal range. I’ve read that this could indicate that my red blood cells might be smaller than usual, which could lead to issues like fatigue or weakness. While my doctor didn’t seem too concerned, I’ve been feeling more tired and low on energy, and I’m looking for ways to naturally improve my blood health. I’ve heard that Ayurveda can help with blood health by supporting the production of red blood cells and improving overall circulation. Are there specific Ayurvedic herbs like Ashwagandha, Triphala, or Beetroot that can help increase hemoglobin levels and improve blood health? Could these herbs help raise my MCH into a more optimal range? Additionally, I want to know if there are any Ayurvedic dietary recommendations that can help improve the health of my blood. Should I be consuming more iron-rich foods or herbs that support the blood's ability to carry oxygen? Has anyone here worked on improving their MCH or overall blood health using Ayurvedic remedies? What herbs, foods, or lifestyle changes helped you achieve a healthy balance in your blood and energy levels?

Doctors' responses

Thank you for sharing your concerns. Low MCH levels can indicate smaller red blood cells or lower hemoglobin, which may contribute to fatigue and weakness. While your doctor isn’t overly concerned, it’s understandable that you want to take steps to support your blood health naturally.

In Ayurveda, herbs like Ashwagandha and Triphala are known for their ability to support overall vitality and improve hemoglobin levels. Ashwagandha is particularly helpful for boosting energy and promoting healthy red blood cell production. Beetroot is rich in nitrates and iron, which can help improve oxygen-carrying capacity and circulation. Shatavari and Punarnava are also commonly used for nourishing blood and improving energy.

Diet is key as well. Ayurveda recommends consuming iron-rich, easy-to-digest foods like cooked leafy greens, lentils, beets, pomegranates, and black raisins. Pair these with vitamin C-rich foods like lemon or oranges to enhance iron absorption. Also, ensure your digestion is strong, as poor digestion can hinder nutrient absorption.

Simple lifestyle practices like gentle exercise, yoga, and pranayama (breathing exercises) can also improve circulation and oxygenation. Deep breathing can help enhance oxygen exchange and energy levels.

These holistic measures may help raise your MCH and improve your energy over time. If your symptoms persist, be sure to check in with your doctor for further evaluation. Wishing you strength and vitality!

When MCH is on the lower end, it can mean that your red blood cells aren’t as rich in hemoglobin as they could be. And you’re spot on—Ayurveda has its own take on helping with this through enhancing blood (rakta) quality and improving circulation.

Definitely, Ashwagandha has a lotta potential to support overall vitality, and while it’s not directly just for red blood cells, it’s used for building strength and energy. It nurtures the dhatus or bodily tissues and can indirectly support blood health. Triphala is also helpful, mostly for digestion and detox, but a clean digestive system is critical in Ayurveda for absorbing nutrients better.

Beetroot is great because it supports the liver—a crucial organ in Ayurveda when looking at blood quality. Perhaps consider Pippali or Guduchi, they have been used traditionally to improve digestion and enhance tissue quality. Often when we talk about improving hemoglobin and blood health, Shatavari is also suggested due to its nourishing effects.

Diet-wise, yes to iron-rich foods. Get good leafy greens, beets, raisins, dates, all that good stuff. Cooking with iron utensils can even add some iron content to your food as well. And remember Cumin, Turmeric, and Garlic—they improve Agni, the digestive fire, ensuring better nutrient absorption.

Lifestyle changes are equally important. Don’t underestimate the power of regular pranayama to increase your body’s oxygen-carrying capacity and meditation, which helps in overall energy management. Balance is vital, so don’t overdo it!

Oh, speaking water infused with Ayurvedic herbal remedies like Tulsi or Kesar can also be beneficial—make sure it’s to your liking.

It’s kind of a process, you know? Give it time, be sure you’re consistent, and always listen to your body’s needs. But remember, if symptoms persist or get worse, consulting with a healthcare provider is crucial.
