Doctors’ responses
I’m sorry to hear about your ongoing struggle with alopecia and the itching. To better understand your condition, could you tell me if you have experienced any recent stress or emotional challenges, as stress can often exacerbate hair loss? How is your overall health, including sleep patterns, energy levels, and digestion? Are there any other symptoms like changes in your skin (rashes, dryness), or any joint pain or other autoimmune symptoms? Have you noticed any triggers, such as specific products, food, or environmental changes, that seem to worsen the itching or hair loss? Additionally, it would be helpful to know if you’ve had any hormonal imbalances or other autoimmune conditions in the past.
Qamar, your symptoms suggest Alopecia Areata with possible scalp dermatitis. The itching and bleeding indicate inflammation, which could be due to an autoimmune response, fungal infection, or sensitivity. Use a mild herbal shampoo or a homemade mix of Shikakai + Amla + Reetha powder. Avoid chemical shampoos. Rinse your scalp with neem water (boil neem leaves in water and cool it). Aloepecia can be a real nuisance, especially with those itchy patches you’re dealing with. It’s important to look at Ayurveda’s understanding of hair health, which often ties back to doshas. In your case, it sounds like there might be an imbalance, particularly with Pitta and Vata.
Now let’s dive in. First, focusing on diet, which plays a crucial role in maintaining balance. Avoid spicy, hot, and oily foods as these can aggravate Pitta and lead to more inflammation and itching. Instead, try incorporating cooling foods like cucumber, leafy greens, and lots of fresh fruits like pomegranate and coconut water. Stay hydrated, too; it’s super essential.
For the itching and hair loss, consider using herbal oils like neem or bhringraj oil. Gently massage your scalp with these oils to help nourish and calm the skin. You can warm the oil slightly, apply it, and leave it for a couple of hours before washing it off with a mild shampoo. Do this about twice a week.
Herbal teas made from chamomile or peppermint can also provide relief from itchiness and offer a little relaxation; brew them fresh and have it daily. When it comes to shampoos and hair products, avoid those with harsh chemicals, sticking to natural ingredients as much as possible.
Stress reduction is key! Some simple breathing exercises or yoga can really make a difference in calming the mind and reducing dosha imbalances. Try practiсing ‘Anulom Vilom’ (alternate nostril breathing) daily for 10 minutes.
If bleeding occurs frequently or worsens, do consult a medical professional soon. Balancing lifestyle and habits with thoughtful Ayurvedic techniques can hopefully provide some relief. This journey is about patience and gentle changes. Let me know if there’s anything else you need!
