Hi Tabassum,
1. Can you tell me if your husband experiences any symptoms like fatigue, abdominal discomfort, or bloating? 2. How is his appetite and sleep? Does he follow any specific dietary restrictions or consume foods high in fats or sugars? These details can help understand his condition better and guide an Ayurvedic treatment plan, along with the necessary lifestyle changes for managing fatty liver and thyroid issues.

Fatty liver, especially grade 3, can be a bit tricky, but yes, it’s possible to manage and even reverse it, especially with a bit of dedication to lifestyle changes. Ayurveda’s great for this, focusing both on root causes and improving digestion—something especially valuable for your husband’s gastric issues too.
Before jumping into specifics, remember that he’s also dealing with hypothyroidism, which means his metabolism might be a bit sluggish. Keep this in mind when considering dietary changes. It might take time, so a patient’s key here.
First, let’s address the liver directly. Ayurvedic herbs like Kutki (Picrorhiza kurroa) are known to be effective—try taking about 500mg twice daily with warm water. It’s known for its liver-protective properties and aids in detoxifying the liver. Another helpful herb is Bhumyamalaki (Phyllanthus niruri); a similar dose can be beneficial.
Now, food-wise: favor light, easily digestible meals, nothing too oily or greesy. Think more plant-based, with an emphasis on bitter and astringent flavors. Turmeric is a must, maybe add it to warm milk or warm water every morning to kick start digestion. And if he’s sipping coffee or lots of caffeinated drinks, might be wise to cut back a smidge.
Digestive fire, or ‘Agni,’ is critical for both the liver and gastric health. Perhaps try fresh ginger tea to boost it before meals. Or you could chew on ginger slices with a pinch of salt 15 mins before eating—really fires up that Agni!
Make sure he’s exercising, even just a brisk walk post-meals which can support liver function and help with weight management, super crucial for both liver and thyroid health. And sleep! A good night’s sleep profoundly impacts these conditions, aim for regular sleep times.
Stress… it’s a silent culprit in liver conditions and hormone imbalances. Encourage some yoga or meditation, it really help balance body and mind.
Lastly, always best to do routine follow-ups with his allopathic doctor, especially while managing hypothyroidism, just to ensure everything’s ticking as it should.
Stay patient and consistent with these changes, and with time, improvements should shine through!
