Hello Sanjana, For managing allergic rhinitis, Sitopaladi Churna and Trikatu Churna can be used as supportive Ayurvedic remedies. They are generally well-tolerated when taken in low doses under supervision. Here’s a suggested dosage:
Sitopaladi Churna: 1 to 2 grams (about 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon) mixed with honey, taken twice a day after meals. It helps in reducing mucus, easing congestion, and supporting respiratory health. Trikatu Churna (a blend of black pepper, long pepper, and ginger): 250 to 500 mg (a pinch) with honey or warm water, once or twice a day. It aids in digestion, reduces Kapha, and helps clear nasal passages. Haridra khand - 1 tsp with warm water in empty stomach. These doses are mild and suitable for most adults, but it’s best to consult an Ayurvedic Vaidya locally to personalize the treatment. Additionally, maintaining a light, warm diet and avoiding dairy or cold foods can enhance the effects of these herbs. Regular steam inhalation and nasal irrigation, Nasyam , Pranayqm with saline water may also provide relief.

Hello Sanjana, It seems like your allergic rhinitis could be related to an imbalance in the Kapha dosha, which often causes excess mucus production and congestion. In Ayurveda, we typically recommend remedies such as using a nasal rinse with a saline or herbal solution (Neti Pot) to clear the nasal passages, as well as consuming warm teas with ingredients like ginger, turmeric, and tulsi to reduce inflammation and clear the airways. Additionally, you might find relief from a diet that avoids cold, heavy, or mucous-forming foods. Have you tried any herbal supplements or dietary changes for this condition? Could you share if you have any sensitivities to certain allergens or a family history of respiratory issues? It might also be helpful to assess your lifestyle and stress levels, as these can contribute to the frequency and severity of allergic reactions.

Allergic rhinitis can be quite troublesome, as you’ve experienced. In Ayurveda, this condition is often attributed to an imbalance in the Kapha dosha, which causes excess mucus production and related symptoms like sneezing and runny nose. Achieving balance involves lifestyle adjustments, dietary changes, and using specific herbs and techniques that target the underlying issues.
First, focusing on your diet can make a significant difference. Reducing or avoiding Kapha-aggravating foods is key. These include dairy products, cold drinks, and foods that are heavy, oily, or overly sweet. Instead, opt for warm, light foods, like soups and broths, along with spices such as ginger, black pepper, and turmeric, which aid digestion and help clear mucus.
Daily practices are also beneficial. Start your day with warm water infused with a bit of lemon and honey to stimulate digestion. Nasal irrigation or Neti can clear mucus buildup and allergens from your nasal passages. It’s essential to use a saline solution, prepared with pure salt and filtered water, to maintain nasal hygiene.
For herbal remedies, consider using Tulsi (holy basil), known for its respiratory benefits. You can boil a few fresh leaves in water and drink it as tea. Another effective herb is Haridra (turmeric) for its anti-inflammatory properties. Making a paste with turmeric powder and honey can soothe irritated passages when taken a few times a week.
Regular Pranayama, especially Kapalbhati or Anulom Vilom, can enhance respiratory function. Pranayama clears nasal congestion and strengthens lung capacity. It’s good to practice pranayama in a peaceful environment with pure air.
Ensure your living space is well-ventilated and free from dust and mold, as these can aggravate symptoms. Maintaining a regular sleep schedule also helps bolster the immune system, reducing sensitivity to allergens.
While these Ayurveda remedies can support your journey toward balance, it’s advisable to maintain regular consultations with a health professional, particularly if symptoms persist or worsen.
