Headache, neck stiffness and shoulder stiffness - #20460
Waht is the cause of my headache? It started from my left nape going up to my left temple. I went to different doctors and they can’t diagnose why it’s happening. Doctors said it’s from stress and anxiety.

You should consult a nearby Ayurvedic physician in person so they can determine the root cause of your condition through Nadi Pariksha (pulse diagnosis) and other Ayurvedic diagnostic tools. This will help in providing a more personalized and effective treatment plan tailored to your body’s needs.

Understanding the root cause of recurring headaches is crucial, especially when it involves a specific pattern like the pain you’ve described from the left nape to the left temple. While stress and anxiety can indeed contribute to headaches, from an Ayurvedic perspective, we consider imbalances in the doshas.
In your case, Vata Dosha might be the main factor behind the headache, as it governs the nervous system and can cause dryness and tension contributing to pain, especially in the head and neck areas. The pathway of your pain could also signal muscle tension, often associated with both Vata and Pitta imbalances. Pitta getting aggravated can manifest as intense headache localised around temples due to heat and inflammation.
For managing this effectively, you can start with some simple lifestyle adjustments. Regularizing your daily routine, especially sleep patterns, can have a significant impact; aim for sleeping and waking at the same time each day. Incorporate grounding foods, those that are sweet, cool, and moist like ghee, coconut oil, and cooked vegetables—these help to soothe Vata.
Consider self-abhyanga (oil massage) using warm sesame oil on your head and neck about 30 minutes before a shower. This can help ease tension and improve circulation. Practicing pranayama and meditation can also be very beneficial in managing stress levels.
Hydration is key too, ensure you’re drinking warm, or room-temperature water throughout the day, which can help with Vata pacification. Additionally, reducing caffeine and alcohol, as these can dry out and aggravate Vata.
If the headache persists or worsens, I recommend consulting with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner who can provide personalized guidance and possibly recommend treatments like Shirodhara or other Panchakarma therapies. It’s essential you follow advice that’s tailored exactly to your unique prakriti and condition. Always remember, anything severe or sudden in terms of symptoms warrants immediate medical attention.
