In Ayurveda, Parkinson's disease, known as Kampavata, is mainly related to an imbalance in the Vata dosha. The increased body stiffness and tremors can indicate such an imbalance. Since you are already on medication, it's important to continue with that as prescribed by your doctor. Here is how you can complement it with Ayurvedic approaches to manage your symptoms.
Firstly, diet plays a crucial role. Favor warm, cooked meals that are easy to digest. Steer clear of overly spicy or dry foods as they can aggravate Vata. Include ghee in your diet for its calming effect on Vata. Foods like roasted nuts, avocados, and warm, spiced teas can be beneficial too.
Ashwagandha is a great start since it strengthens nervous system and enhances muscle tone. However, consider adding Brahmi or Bacopa Monnieri, known for nourishing nervous system and improving mental clarity. Take this powder (around ¼ to ½ teaspoon) mixed with warm milk or water in the mornings.
Practice Abhyanga, a daily self-oil massage using warm sesame oil, which will help in reducing stiffness and nourishing tissues. Perform this before your morning bath or shower.
Pranayama and meditation are also important. Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) for 5-10 minutes daily can calm the mind and balance Vata. Incorporate gentle yoga postures like Tadasana and Vrikshasana to maintain body movement without overexertion.
Lastly, always stay hydrated and keep your stress levels in check. Sleep is vital, aim for 7-8 hours of uninterrupted rest each night.
Please, it’s crucial to discuss any new regimen with your healthcare provider, particularly because some herbs could potentially interact with your current medication. It's always better to have professional guidance to avoid conflicts de ele with your ongoing treatment.
