Allergic rhinitis is a common issue, particularly if you’ve got a family history of it. In Ayurveda, such conditions often point to an imbalance in the Kapha dosha, which is linked to mucus and phlegm production. It can also involve Vata dosha disruption since your symptoms flare with weather change and cold exposure. This awareness will guide us towards more personalized solutions that might actually make a difference for you.

Firstly, managing your environment is crucial. Dust and allergens can trigger symptoms, so try using an air purifier at home, especially in your bedroom. Regular dusting with a damp cloth, rather than a dry one, can minimize airborne allergens. Make sure the ventilation in your house is good too - you don’t want any allergens building up.

Dietarily, intake of warming spices like ginger, black pepper, and turmeric can help balance the Kapha. Drinking warm ginger tea in the morning can elevate your digestive fire, or Agni, which can prevent excess phlegm production. Avoid dairy, refined sugars, and cold foods as they tend to aggravate Kapha.

For immediate nasal congestion relief, perform steam inhalation with a drop of eucalyptus oil. It can assist in decongesting your nasal passages. Just a few minutes over a pot of steaming water should help.

A regular practice of Jal Neti, a yogic technique of nasal cleansing, can help reduce the frequency of blockages and sneezing. Make sure you’re comfortable with it, and use lukewarm saline water for safe practice.

Consult an Ayurvedic practitioner for personalized herbal formulations, but Triphala can be beneficial, which also supports a healthy immune response and relieves chronic congestion. These suggestions should fit in with your treatments and improve your quality of life, complementing your asthma medication.
