Burning sensation in the stomach coupled with sour belching frequently points to an imbalance in the digestive system, common signs of aggravated Pitta dosha in Ayurveda. When Pitta becomes disturbed, it can lead to an intensification of the digestive fire, acerbating the stomach lining and causing acidity issues. First off, your diet is crucial. Try easing up on spicy, oily or fried foods, and instead focus on cooling and soothing alternatives like cucumbers, melons or coconut. Curd, or yogurt, is also beneficial but ensure to consume it in the afternoon and avoid it at night. It's best to minimize intake of sour and fermented foods—pickles, vinegar, that can increase acidity. To pacify this Pitta imbalance, drinking a glass of lukewarm water mixed with a teaspoon of Amla (Indian gooseberry) powder before meals can be helpful. Amla is highly revered for its cooling properties and is a natural antidote for excessive acid production. If Amla powder isn't readily available, organic raw honey with warm milk acts as a potent alternative. Consume it at night before bedtime. During meals, make it a habit to sip on a small amount of buttermilk with a sprinkle of roasted cumin powder, this aids digestion without producing excess acid. Also, incorporating coriander seeds tea or coriander leaves in your daily routine can bring relief and has cooling effects on the body. Lifestyle adjustments can make a difference too. Avoid taking stress and engage in calming practices like yoga or meditation. Just 15 minutes a day can noticeably improve digestive health. Also, don't lie down immediately after meals—give it at least two hours. It's tempting, but it precipitates the belching and burning you've described. If the pain persists or worsens, and if you experience additional symptoms like weight loss or continuous vomiting, it's imperative to seek immediate medical attention. Not everything can be self-treated and professional guidance ensures safety.
