In Ayurveda, breathing issues such as asthma or bronchitis are primarily related to an imbalance in the Vata and Kapha doshas. These conditions often straddle the line between chronic and acute, and their management can be both preventive and therapeutic. In your case, as it has evolved over many years, there is a need for a comprehensive approach that addresses both the root imbalance and symptomatic relief. Firstly, understanding the role of your Agni, or digestive fire, is crucial. Imbalances in Agni can lead to the accumulation of Ama, or toxins, which exacerbate respiratory symptoms. Begin with a mild detox, known in Ayurveda as Panchakarma, which can help clear any lingering Ama from your system. Consult with a qualified practitioner to ensure this is tailored to your specific needs. Diet plays a significant role in managing respiratory issues. Avoid cold, damp and heavy foods that can increase Kapha, like dairy, red meat, and fried foods. Instead, opt for light, warm, and easily digestible meals. Herbal teas made with ginger, tulsi, and cinnamon can help to keep the airways clear and reduce inflammation. Practicing Pranayama, especially methods like Anulom-Vilom and Bhastrika, cautiously helps in increasing lung capacity and boosting oxygen flow. It's beneficial to practice in a clean, pollution-free environment. Including yoga asanas like Bhujangasana (Cobra pose) and Dhanurasana (Bow pose) supports respiratory health. Herbs such as Vasaka, Pippali, and Mulethi have shown potential in supporting respiratory function. But it's important that you continue working with an Ayurvedic practitioner to monitor how these integrate with your current treatment. While Ayurvedic treatments aim at finding balance and strengthening the body's natural defense, some conditions may not find a permanent "cure," per se. Sustained improvement and management over time are critical. It’s also advisable to keep regular check-ups with your clinicians to track your progress and make sure nothing serious gets overlooked. Permanent resolution sometimes intertwines with ongoing management, with a focus on lifestyle habits that build overall resilience.
