Numbness in the feet, especially if you're on your feet all day, could indeed relate to prolonged standing, but it's important to address potential other causes too. From an Ayurvedic perspective, we might link this to an imbalance in Vata dosha, which governs movement and circulation. At times, an imbalance can cause issues like numbness or pain. To start, consider a warm massage for your feet each evening. Use sesame oil, which is warming and Vata-pacifying. Heat the oil slightly and apply it to affected areas in gentle, circular motions, paying special attention to the heels. This can help in promoting circulation and potentially reducing numbness and discomfort. Another practical approach is Dipika (the soak), a foot soak in warm water with a pinch of salt and a few drops of eucalyptus oil before bed. Soak your feet for about 10-15 minutes. It's soothing, and can also ease pain in the heel area. Diet is key too. Incorporate warm, grounding foods like sweet potatoes, oatmeal, and almonds into your meals to balance Vata. Steer clear of too many dry or cold foods. Make sure you stay hydrated, sipping warm water or herbal teas throughout the day. Practice simple stretching exercises for your feet and legs at intervals during the day. Just a few minutes can enhance circulation and relieve stiffness. If possible, have breaks where you can sit or elevate your legs when you have a moment's rest. Given that you're working in a hospital, it may not be feasible to take long breaks. Still, pacing activity, if possible, might alleviate symptoms. If numbness persists or worsens, or if it affects your daily life, consider consulting with a healthcare provider to ensure there's no underlying condition like neuropathy. They might suggest some conventional investigations or treatments alongside Ayurvedic advice. I hope these suggestions will help to ease your discomfort and provide some relief from the numbness :)
