Allergic rhinitis, characterized by sneezing, itching eyes, and runny nose, often hints at an imbalance in the Kapha dosha, potentially mixed with a Vata concern. Addressing dust allergies specifically involves both avoiding triggers and fortifying your body's defenses to reduce symptoms naturally. To begin with, in the Ayurvedic context, cleansing of the nasal passages is essential. Consider using a Neti pot for nasal rinsing. This involves using lukewarm saline water to flush out allergens and excess Kapha from the nasal cavity. Make sure you're using distilled or boiled and cooled water, to avoid any contamination. This should preferably be done in the morning. Ayurveda also values the power of herbal formulations. In your case, you might find relief with Sitopaladi Churna mixed with honey, taken twice daily after meals. This traditional formulation helps to balance Kapha and supports respiratory health. Anu Tailam is another beneficial medication, two drops each nostril every morning can aid in reducing Kapha accumulation. From a dietary perspective, focus on foods that are light, warm, and easy to digest. Avoid dairy products, as these can increase Kapha. Instead, incorporate spices like ginger, turmeric, and black pepper in your diet, as they promote better digestion and help clear mucus. Beyond medicine, lifestyle adjustments play a crucial role. Ensure you're getting adequate rest, keep your living space dust-free, and consider using an air purifier if dust is a constant issue. Practicing yogic breathing exercises, like pranayama, can also support the respiratory system and strengthen lung function over time. Seek guidance from an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner to tailor these recommendations specifically to your constitution and needs. Remember that these remedies work best when integrated consistently into your daily regimen. If symptoms worsen or persist, conventional medical advice is important too in face of acute allergies.
