In Ayurveda kidney stone is categorised under Ashta mahagada Which means it is considered one of the most difficult disease if not manage properly The term mutra means urine and Ash ashmari means stone thus Mutra ashmari is a condition where solid stone like formation or developed in the urinary track due to imbalance in dosha mainly vata and kapha The main causes are excessive consumption of dry, spicy and salty foods, drinking less water, suppression of natural urges like urination , sedentary lifestyle, high protein, diet, or irregular food habits… Over time, these factors leads to imbalance in vata which dries up the kapha and pitta In the urinary tract, leading to crystallisation and formation of stones Symptoms like sharp or dull pain in the lower abdomen, back or sides, burning, or difficulty in urination blood in urine, nausea, vomiting, frequent or abstracted urination can be seen In Ayurveda, we concentrate on two factors first is removing or dissolving the stone and second is preventing recurrence by correcting lifestyle and diet Medicine like VarunAdhi kwatha, gokshura guggulu, Punarnava mandoora Chandraprabha vati can be taken twice daily after food Chandana Sava 4 teaspoon with equal quantity of water twice daily after food can be taken if symptoms process even after taking medicine, then it’s better to offer Pancha Karma therapy where virechana - to eliminate accumulated pitta toxins Basti-particularly effective in managing vata type stones Uttar basti- specialised urinary tract, detox for recurring or stuck stones Your dad also plays an important role, both treatment and prevention wise, so include coconut water, which will act as an natural diuretic and soothing barley, water, fresh sugarCaine juice warm water infused with cumin coriander fennel Fruits like watermelon, cucumber, pomegranate Avoid excessive salt, pickles, spicy or fried food, animal proteins, especially meat, spinach, tomatoes, brinjal Carbonated, drinks, and preserved juices Avoid holding urine or suppressing natural urges Lifestyle modification Drink at least 3 to 4 L of clean water daily unless restricted avoid sedentary lifestyle practice, yoga like Pavanaja Mukta Sana bujanasana Avoid stress and over exertion At least try this for six weeks minimum with a regular review. Frequent urination after consuming water, especially when you have renal calculi, can indeed be bothersome. From an Ayurvedic perspective, this could be related to an imbalance in the Vata dosha, which governs movement and can affect urinary function. Addressing the underlying cause is key, so here’s what you can consider:

First, it would be ideal to focus on pacifying Vata and maintaining hydration to prevent further kidney stone formation. One effective remedy is to incorporate barley water into your daily routine. Barley is known for its diuretic and kidney-cleansing properties. Prepare it by boiling a handful of barley grains in water until they’re soft & then strain the liquid. Drink a cup of this barley water two to three times a day.

Pashanabheda (Bergenia ligulata) is another beneficial herb for kidney stones, traditionally used for its lithotriptic properties, aiding in stone dissolution. An ayurvedic preparation like “Cystone” often contains this herb and can be taken as directed, usually two tablets twice a day after meals. It assists in managing recurrent urinary tract infections and stones.

Dietary modifications are important too! Avoid foods high in oxalate content like spinach and nuts, which can contribute to stone formation. Instead, emphasize a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, staying clear of processed foods. Including more alkaline foods like cucumbers and melons might also help balance urinary pH levels and reduce irritation.

Hydration is essential, but try sipping water gradually throughout the day rather than gulping large amounts at once. This can help the kidneys to process liquids more efficiently.

Adding a regular yoga practice with poses like Ardha Matsyendrasana (Half Spinal Twist) and Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) could help in improving kidney function and promoting overall balance in the body.

Lastly, it’s essential to be aware if the frequent urination is accompanied by discomfort or any signs of infections like cloudy or strong-smelling urine. If so, it’s necessary to consult with a healthcare professional to avoid complications.

Implement these suggestions carefully considering your lifestyle context and always consult an Ayurveda practitioner for personalized advice that suits your particular Prakriti and medical condition.
