can ayurveda help reduce keloid scars? looking for natural options - #2278

Zoey

I have a keloid scar on my chest from an old surgical incision, and it’s not only painful but also quite visible. I’ve tried various treatments like steroid injections and silicone gels, but the results have been minimal, and the scar continues to grow. I’ve read that Ayurveda might offer natural remedies for keloid treatment. Are there specific herbs or oils that can help flatten the scar or reduce the pain and itching? If anyone here has successfully treated a keloid with Ayurvedic methods, I’d love to hear about your experience and what worked best for you.

In Ayurveda, keloid scars are considered to be a result of an imbalance in the body's healing process, often linked to excess pitta dosha (heat) and poor tissue regeneration. Ayurvedic remedies focus on soothing inflammation, promoting tissue healing, and reducing scar tissue formation. A combination of herbal oils like *Mahanarayan Tail*, *Kesaradi Oil*, or *Tamala Leaf Oil* may help reduce the size and redness of keloid scars by improving circulation, softening the tissue, and preventing further growth. Additionally, *Haridra* (turmeric) and *Nimba* (neem) have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that can help with pain, itching, and skin healing. Applying a paste of *Turmeric* and *Aloe Vera* or using *Rose Water* as a soothing agent can also be effective. However, keloids can be resistant to treatment, and the results may vary depending on the individual. It’s important to have a consistent, gentle application and combine this with internal herbs that balance pitta and support tissue repair, such as *Ashwagandha* or *Triphala*. Consulting with an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner for personalized treatment is highly recommended to manage both the physical and emotional aspects of keloid scars.

Hey there, dealing with keloids can be really frustrating, right? Especially when you've tried so many things and it's still there. Ayurveda looks at this a bit differently than conventional medicine, focusing on balance and holistic health. In terms of doshas, keloids are often linked with an imbalance in Vata and Pitta, which can create excess heat and lead to abnormal tissue formation. But, let's see what Ayurveda can offer for ya. For starters, there's gotu kola, known as 'Mandukaparni' in Sanskrit. It's been used in Ayurvedic practices for reducing scar tissue. You could try applying gotu kola paste directly to the scar. Prepare it by grinding fresh leaves and mixing it with a bit of water, then apply gently on the keloid once a day. It’s said to improve circulation and support skin healing, but keep an eye out for irritation. Then there's turmeric, which we call 'Haridra'. It's kind of a magical thing in Ayurveda due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Mixing turmeric with some neem oil or coconut oil to form a paste and applying it to keloids might help too. It's not going to work overnight, you’d probably want to give it a month or so to start seeing effects. For internal balance, consider Triphala, a combination of three fruits that help with detoxifying and balancing your system. A small spoon mixed in warm water before bed could be beneficial. Helps digestion too, which is never a bad thing! Oh and lifestyle matters. Stress an influence keloid formation, so finding ways to relax is key. You might wanna check out daily yoga or Pranayama (breathing exercises), they're wonderful for calming down. It's always good to approach it these natural options with a bit of patience, remember, they take time… and again, if the keloid becomes really painful or changes suddenly, check in with a professional. Your safety is top priority.
