Certainly, for concerns with energy homeostasis and weight management, Ayurveda offers various approaches rooted in understanding the body’s constitution, or prakriti. Given you've mentioned she eats well but doesn’t gain weight, it’s likely there might be a Vata imbalance playing a role. Vata dosha, when aggravated, can lead to issues like poor nutrient absorption or excessive energy expenditure. Firstly, incorporating healthy fats in the diet can be quite beneficial. Encourage the use of ghee (clarified butter) in her meals, as it is a revered substance in Ayurveda, known for its ability to enhance digestion and nutrient absorption. Adding a teaspoon of ghee to her rice or warm milk could help. Also, ensure her meals are consistently taken at the same times every day. Regular meal timing supports the stable function of agni, or digestive fire, preventing it from fluctuating. She should aim to eat heavier meals during midday when agni is naturally stronger. Warm, cooked, and nourishing foods are preferable — soups and stews with vegetables like sweet potatoes and carrots can be soothing and sustaining. Avoid raw foods and cold drinks, which may further aggravate Vata dosha. Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb well-regarded for its ability to enhance muscle mass and strength. She might consider taking Ashwagandha powder (around 1/2 teaspoon daily), mixed in warm milk, ideally in the evening before bed. Stress management is also crucial, practices like Abhyanga, or self-massage with warm sesame oil, can calm Vata and support relaxation. 20 minutes of daily pranayama, specifically alternate nostril breathing, can also improve her energy balance and digestion. However, if there's ongoing unexplained weight loss despite implementing these practices, it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare provider to rule out any underlying medical conditions. Always tailor dietary and lifestyle changes to her prakriti, ensuring they're sustainable and mindful of her unique needs and preferences.
