how to increase memory power in students - #23959

Michael

I am struggling to help my son with his studies. He’s in high school, and it feels like his memory just isn’t what it used to be! We tried flashcards and different study techniques, but it’s like they all just pass through his mind like water through a sieve. Last week he had a history test and honestly, I could tell he had studied, but come test time, he just blanked out. I heard these things about how to increase memory power in students, which is exactly what we need! He’s always been a bright kid, but it seems like since we switched to online classes, his focus and retention have really taken a hit. Sometimes I wonder if there's some natural remedy or Ayurvedic approach that could help him regain his footing. Like, maybe some herbs or dietary changes?? I read about Brahmi and got a few suggestions from friends, but I’m not sure where to start. Anyone else dealt with something similar and found effective ways on how to increase memory power in students? Any advice would be super appreciated!

It sounds like your son is going through a common challenge, especially with the shift to online learning, which can be quite demanding on one's focus and memory. Ayurveda indeed offers a variety of strategies to help improve memory power, particularly through herbal support, dietary modifications, and lifestyle adjustments. Let's go through some practical recommendations. First thing, considering the use of Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), it's a highly esteemed herb in Ayurveda for its potential to enhance cognitive function and memory. Brahmi can be taken in various forms such as capsules, tablets, or even fresh leaves if available. A general suggestion is to take around 250-500mg of Brahmi extract daily, but always check for any specific instructions on the product you choose and consult with a healthcare professional. Consistent use over a few months often yields the best results. Another herb that might be beneficial is Shankhapushpi, known for its calming effects and brain-boosting properties. You can make a tea by boiling the Shankhapushpi powder with milk or water and a pinch of black pepper to aid absorption. In terms of diet, incorporation of foods like almonds, walnuts, and ghee can help nourish the brain. Soaking 5-7 almonds overnight and consuming them in the morning, after peeling, might support memory enhancement. Ghee, rich in healthy fats, can be used in cooking or taken with warm milk. Encouraging a consistent sleep schedule will also significantly benefit his memory retention. A good night's rest is essential for memory consolidation, so approximately 7-9 hours is optimal for adolescents. Managing screen time, especially before bed, may help improve sleep quality as well. Additionally, Pranayama, particularly Brahmari and Nadi Shodhana, aids in reducing stress and increasing concentration. Practicing these daily for about 10 minutes can help calm the mind and enhance focus. It's crucial to consider any underlying factors, such as stress or dietary inadequacies, contributing to his symptoms, so identifying and addressing them should be a priority. Ensure his diet is balanced, rich in fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and adequate protein to support overall brain health. Lastly, while engaging in these Ayurvedic practices, also maintain an open dialogue with his healthcare provider, especially if you plan to introduce supplements or herbal remedies. Making these changes thoughtfully and progressively will be key to supporting his memory in a safe and effective manner.
