How to treat leg/feet pain? Feet pain. - #30762

Reena

My mother has regular feet ache or legs paining as she works all day. I have tried relief ointments but it isn’t as efficient as needed. Her heels ache at the slightest pressure applied on them. Her feet soles hurt too, I thought its due to her choice of slippers so I had her change them since last week nd she says its helping.

It sounds like your mother’s leg and foot pain might be connected to her daily activities and possibly aggravated by footwear. In Ayurveda, such discomfort often correlates with an imbalance in the Vata dosha, which governs movement and circulation. To help relieve her symptoms, consider the following suggestions, rooted in Ayurvedic principles:

Firstly, focus on enhancing circulation and warmth to the affected areas. Applying warm oil massages to the feet and calves can be beneficial. Use sesame or mustard oil, both known for their warming properties. Gently warm the oil and massage her feet and legs in circular motions before she retires for bed. This can help in soothing the muscles, improving blood flow, and reducing pain.

Diet plays a critical role too. Encourage the inclusion of warm, grounding foods that pacify Vata. She should emphasize cooked vegetables, whole grains like quinoa and rice, and warming spices such as ginger, turmeric, and cinnamon. Avoid raw, cold foods and stay hydrated to keep the tissues nourished.

A simple home remedy could be soaking her feet in warm water with a handful of Epsom salts for about 15-20 minutes. This helps relax the muscles and refreshes the feet after a tiresome day.

Encourage her to perform gentle yoga that focuses on stretching the lower body and improving flexibility. Asanas such as Vajrasana or Tadasana can be effective. Additionally, Pranayama techniques, such as deep abdominal breathing, can help balance her Vata by calming the nervous system.

Lastly, if she continues to feel discomfort despite these home remedies, it’s advisable to consult an Ayurvedic practitioner or healthcare professional for a comprehensive evaluation. Persistent pain could indicate an underlying condition that requires professional attention.
