Doctors' responses

For your hair concerns with dandruff, itchy scalp, and hair loss, I recommend looking for an Ayurvedic shampoo that contains ingredients like Neem (Azadirachta indica), Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), Shikakai (Acacia concinna), and Amla (Phyllanthus emblica) as they are known for addressing these issues. Neem is particularly effective in fighting dandruff due to its antifungal properties. Brahmi and Amla are well-regarded for strengthening hair and reducing hair fall, while Shikakai acts as a natural cleanser that doesn’t strip away the natural oils necessary for a healthy scalp. Ensure to select a product that’s explicitly labelled free from SLS, SLES, and parabens to guarantee it meets your preferences. Apply the shampoo twice a week, and gently massage it for about 2-3 minutes to let the natural ingredients work on the scalp.

For conditioner, consider one with Bhringraj (Eclipta alba), Coconut milk, or Aloe Vera as primary ingredients. These not only provide deep nourishment to the hair follicles but also help in maintaining scalp health and detangling hair.

Regarding the face wash for oily skin, an Ayurvedic product containing ingredients like lemon (Citrus limon), Neem, and turmeric (Curcuma longa) would be appropriate. Lemon and turmeric are known for their properties that control excess oil production and clear out pores. Neem will also help in keeping the skin clear from breakouts and maintain an even skin tone. Use the face wash twice daily, preferably in the morning and evening, to keep your skin fresh and unclogged.

Both for the shampoo/conditioner and the facewash, it’s vital to maintain a balanced diet, rich in fresh fruits and vegetables. Regular hydrating by drinking adequate water and ensuring adequate rest is also crucial, as stress can exacerbate dandruff and oily skin issues. Remember to patch-test any new product on your skin or scalp to ensure no allergic reaction.

To address your dandruff, itchy scalp, and hair loss using ayurvedic principles, consider a shampoo that contains natural ingredients known for balancing vata and kapha doshas, which often contribute to these issues. Look for a shampoo with neem (known for its antimicrobial properties), bhringraj (helps in strengthening hair follicles), and amla (supports hair growth and reduces scalp build-up). These ingredients not just effectively cleanse your scalp but also nurture it.

Check labels to ensure it is free of SLS/SLES and parabens, maybe has an organic certification. You might need to try a conditioner separately, as many ayurvedic shampoos focus primarily on treating scalp conditions rather than conditioning hair. For conditioning, use one with hibiscus or fenugreek, which are great for softening and moisturizing hair.

As for face wash for oily skin, focus on ingredients that pacify excess pitta dosha while cleansing effectively. Neem and turmeric in a face wash can control oiliness and acne due to their antibacterial and astringent qualities. Ensure it has ingredients like sandalwood or rosewater which can soothe and maintain skins moisture balance.

When using these products, consistency matters. Wash your hair and face between two to three times a week. A daily face wash can help in managing excess oil without stripping your skin of natural oils, keeping in mind your individual prakriti (body constitution). Test any new product on a small skin patch before broadly applying, especially since natural ingredients can have strong effects. If issues persist, consult an Ayurvedic practitioner locally to adjust treatments to your specific needs. Remember these remedies are about treating root causes, not instant fixes, so patience and consistency are key.
