Doctors’ responses
It’s evident that you’re dealing with a few imbalances based on your symptoms ranging from hair fall to potential digestive issues. In Ayurveda, such conditions often hint towards a disturbance in the body’s doshas, mainly Pitta and Vata. Here’s a comprehensive overview tailored to your concerns:
Address the Digestive Fire: Balancing your digestive system, or Agni, is crucial. Start your day with a glass of warm water infused with the juice of half a lemon. This can stimulate digestion. Half an hour before meals, try taking a teaspoon of grated ginger with a pinch of salt. This helps in igniting Agni.
Dietary Shifts: Include more wholesome, cooked meals over raw foods. Favor easily digestible grains like rice and oats. Clarity of the digestive tract might be supported by increasing fiber intake from fruits like papaya and vegetables like bottle gourd, enhancing digestion and alleviating constipation.
Balance Pitta and Vata: Ashwagandha and Shatavari are powerful adaptogens. They can be consumed as powders - about a teaspoon mix in warm milk before bed, which might help balance hormones and support hair health. Brahmi oil can be used for scalp massages to improve circulation and nourish hair roots.
Prolactin and Hormonal Balance: Ayurveda suggests incorporating Dhatu-balancing herbs like Guduchi and Tulsi. Brew a simple tea using these by boiling a cup of water with 3-4 tulsi leaves and a small piece of Guduchi. Sip it warm twice daily.
Lifestyle Adjustments: Even though exercise is integral to your routine, make sure it’s not overly strenuous, which can potentially, aggravate Vata. Gentle yoga and pranayama, especially bhramari and anulom-vilom, are recommended to soothe the mind and body.
While oral minoxidil and dutamax have its benefits, integrating these Ayurvedic methods can potentially complement them. Ensure to monitor your health markers periodically and collaborate closely with your healthcare provider for real-time guidance.
For female pattern hair loss combined with PCOS, the underlying imbalances might involve aggravated vata and pitta doshas. Managing these with Siddha-Ayurvedic principles could assist in addressing both the hair loss and other symptoms you mentioned such as digestive issues.
Firstly, focus on harmonizing vata and pitta doshas. Start with your diet: emphasize warm, cooked foods that are easy to digest and calming for vata. Use spices like cumin, coriander, and turmeric which can aid digestion. Avoid excessively spicy, oily or acidic foods that may further disturb pitta. Consume a balanced diet rich in fiber to help with gut health. Include more leafy greens, fruits like pomegranate and apples, and whole grains.
For the specific hormone imbalances, integrating herbs like Ashoka and Shatavari may help in balancing hormones and thus addressing some PCOS symptoms. These should be taken under the guidance of a qualified practitioner who can recommend the right dosage.
Applying a scalp massage with oils like Bhringraj or Amla oil can potentially support hair health. Do this two to three times a week to improve circulation.
Explore stress management techniques such as yoga and meditation, which can be beneficial for both vata and pitta balance. Pranayama, specifically Nadi Shodhana, aids in calming the mind and enhancing overall equanimity.
Given the low Vitamin B12, it’s crucial to address this deficiency, as it could further exacerbate hair fall and fatigue. Consult a healthcare provider to discuss possible supplementation or dietary changes needed, such as increasing intake of fortified foods or considering the need for supplements.
Since your TSH levels and prolactin are elevated, regular monitoring is necessary. Collaborate with your physician for appropriate interventions for these, as neglecting them might interfere with other treatments.
Lastly, continue with physical activity like walking which supports kapha and helps maintain healthy metabolism but ensure it’s not too intense as to aggravate your symptoms. Regular follow-ups with your healthcare team are essential to manage PCOS and maintain an optimum health balance.
