Pathya

A little sunlight is good for your scalp and hair.

Keep calm and relaxed. It will help your hair.

A short fast is a good way to begin the program. Then begin eating only nutritious foods.

Anti-microbial shampoos are often recommended, but there is no evidence that this germkilling factor lessens the dandruff.

To help control appearance, cleanse with a shampoo, designed to help control dandruff. Wash the hair in vinegar, to remove all the loose scales.

Apathya

Shampoos containing selenium sulfide can cause eye damage and hairloss.

Plain water alone is also good.

Reduce intake of fats, grease, and all fried foods from the diet. Stop the use of alcohol. Check to see if you have food allergies (wheat, dairy products, citrus, or something else).

Avoid stress and poor elimination. Do not use strong, irritant shampoos or hair treatments.

Hello Mimansa,

At 22, persistent dandruff that keeps returning even after using medicated shampoos suggests a deeper issue in your body. But don’t worry, we are here to help.

✅ AYURVEDIC PLAN OF TREATMENT
1. Gandhak Rasayan – 1-0-1 after food (purifies skin and scalp).
2. Arogyavardhini Vati 2-0-2 after food – for chronic dandruff along with an oily scalp and acne issues.
3. Nimbadi Kashaya – 20 ml with equal water twice daily (blood purifier, anti-fungal).
4. Triphala Churna – 1 tsp at bedtime with warm water (detox, improves digestion).

✅ For external scalp care:

1. Durdurpatradi taila (lukewarm) – apply 2 hours before the bath, twice weekly.
2. Triphala decoction rinse – boil Triphala in water, cool, and use as the last rinse.
3. Aloe vera gel (fresh) – apply on the scalp overnight once weekly.

✅ HOME REMEDIES

1. Neem paste – grind fresh neem leaves and apply on the scalp for 30 minutes before washing.
2. Fenugreek (methi) paste – soak overnight, grind, and apply; this helps reduce flakes and itching.

✅ DIET AND LIFESTYLE

✅ Include:
- Fresh fruits (amla, pomegranate, papaya).
- Leafy greens, bitter foods (karela, methi).
- Warm water, herbal teas (ginger, coriander).

❌ Avoid:
- Oily, fried, junk, and bakery food.
- Excess sugar, curd, and cheese.
- Late nights and stress (these increase dandruff and hair fall).

✅ LIFESTYLE MODIFICATION

Practice Shiro Abhyanga (oil massage) weekly.
Manage stress with pranayama (Anulom Vilom, Bhramari).
Use mild herbal shampoo (shikakai, reetha, amla) instead of harsh chemicals.

Ayurveda suggests a mix of internal detox and external scalp care for lasting results.

With regular neem, triphala, medicated oil massage, and a clean diet, you can manage dandruff and restore scalp health naturally.

Wishing you good health.

Warm regards,
Dr. Snehal Vidhate

I understand your concern. You are having dandruff for many years, and shampoos have only given temporary relief. This happens because the root cause lies inside the body. In Ayurveda, dandruff is usually due to Vata–Kapha imbalance and weak digestion (Agni), which causes dryness, flakes, and itching.

Internal Medicines Gandhak Rasayana – 1 tablet twice daily after food. Kaishore Guggulu – 2 tablets twice daily after food. Eranda Bhrishta Haritaki – 1 teaspoon with warm water at bedtime.

External Care Dano oil – apply on scalp 2–3 times a week before hair wash. Lumina shampoo – use for washing hair. you can wash you scalp with triphala decoction. Note: If dandruff becomes very thick, itchy, and resistant to treatment, it may not just be simple dandruff. Sometimes it can be scalp psoriasis. In that case, please consult a nearby Ayurvedic physician in person for proper examination and treatment

HELLO MIMANSA,

To manage long-standing dandruff effectively, consider approaching it with Ayurvedic principles targeting the root causes. Dandruff is often linked to imbalances in the Kapha and Vata doshas. Here’s a detailed guide to help you address this issue through Ayurveda.

Begin by evaluating your diet, as poor digestion can influence dandruff. Focus on light, warm, and mildly spiced foods. Increase the intake of fruits and vegetables that are gentle on digestion, like steamed green leafy vegetables and juicy fruits. Avoid excessively oily, fried foods and fermented items. Foods that aggravate Kapha and Vata, such as dairy, red meat, and alcohol, can also contribute to dandruff. Incorporating ginger and turmeric can support digestion and reduce inflammation.

External treatment involves regular application of herbal oils. Consider Bhringraj or neem oil, known for their antifungal and skin-soothing properties. Warm the oil slightly, massage gently into the scalp at least twice a week, leave it on for an hour or overnight, then wash off with a mild herbal shampoo. Using a shampoo containing natural ingredients like reetha (soapnut) or shikakai can further assist in cleansing without causing irritation.

In terms of lifestyle, stress and sleeplessness can exacerbate dandruff. Incorporate stress-relieving practices like yoga, meditation, and deep breathing exercises. Agni (digestive fire) regulation is essential; ensure you eat at regular intervals and avoid eating late at night. Hydration is crucial, so drink plenty of warm water throughout the day, but avoid cold drinks which can disturb Vata.

If symptoms persist, consider a personalized consultation with an Ayurvedic practitioner for tailor-made recommendations. Not all treatments work immediately, and consistency is key. Ayurveda often requires time and dedication but offers a holistic approach to health that may lead to enduring improvements. Always monitor your condition closely and adjust as necessary.
