Hair fall can indeed stem from several factors — stress, diet, hormonal fluctuations, lifestyle habits, and even the products we use can play roles. Understanding this from an Ayurvedic perspective involves looking at the balance of your doshas, particularly pitta dosha, as it governs metabolism and transformation processes in the body, including hair health. An imbalance in your pitta can lead to hair thinning, premature graying, or shedding.
Your increased consumption of junk food and disrupted sleep patterns could aggravate this imbalance. Unhealthy diet disturbs your agni (digestive fire), leading to the accumulation of ama (toxins) in your body, which can negatively affect your hair and overall health. Also, stress raises cortisol levels, which can further trigger pitta imbalance, enhancing hair fall.
You might want to consider incorporating cooling foods into your diet — like cucumbers, leafy greens, and fresh fruits which can help pacify pitta. Also, hydrate adequately and include more whole grains and healthy proteins. Herbal support from Triphala, Brahmi, and Amla can help cleanse excess pitta and nourish tissues (sapta dhatus).
Putting some effort into stress-relieving practices like yoga, meditation or even simple breathing exercises can make a big difference. Massaging your scalp once or twice a week with coconut or bhringraj oil can also improve hair strength and circulation to hair follicles.
If significant hair loss persists, or if there are other symptoms, it’s important to consult a healthcare provider to rule out any underlying medical condition. In essence, gaining balanced health will nurture hair health — it’s all interconnected in Ayurveda.
