can we drink sabja water daily - #36839

I am dealing with this weird digestion issue lately and rwally want to fix it. A friend told me about sabja seeds, and I tried drinking sabja water, like, every morning for a week. The first few days felt kinda good, but then I started getting bloated and even had some cramps, like, why is that happening? Can we drink sabja water daily without any issues? I mean, I read that sabja has a lot of benefits, but I'm worried now... I don't understand if I might be overdoing it or if it’s just not working for me. Plus, I already have this habit of drinking water, lemon and honey every morning, and now I added this sabja water to the mix. Is that a good combo? I also did some research and saw things like "helps with weight loss" and "good for skin," but nothing on if it’s actually safe to drink sabja water daily for me specifically. Anyone else had this kind of reaction? Should I just cut back to maybe a few times a week instead of everyday? I can't afford to feel worse. Any help would be awesome!

Sabja seeds, also known as sweet basil seeds, do have several health benefits including aiding digestion, weight loss, and skin health. However, not everyone can tolerate them daily, especially if you’re experiencing bloating and cramps. It’s essential to recognize that each person’s body responds differently based on individual constitution (prakriti) and current health imbalances.

Adding sabja to your routine might be beneficial, but it seems you’re experiencing some adverse effects. The bloating and cramps may suggest that your agni, or digestive fire, is not adequately processing this addition, possibly due to its cooling properties. In Ayurveda, balancing is key. If you have a vata dosha imbalance or weak digestive fire, introducing something cold or heavy in nature, like soaked sabja seeds, could exacerbate symptoms.

Considering you already consume a concoction of water, lemon, and honey daily, which is warming in nature, it might conflict with the cooling effect of sabja, leading to digestive discomfort. It’s advisable to separate their intake to see if it mitigates the issues. Try having sabja water in the afternoon when your digestion may be more active.

Perhaps you should reduce the frequency - having sabja water 2-3 times a week instead of daily could be a better fit for your body’s current needs. Pay attention to portion size too; a teaspoon of seeds is usually enough when soaking. Consuming excessive amounts can burden the digestive system and absorb excess fluid, potentially causing those cramps.

If the bloating and cramps persist, it’s crucial to reconsider the inclusion of sabja seeds and consult with a professional to explore other mild options for digestion, like gentle herbal teas or spice blends, that are suitable for your dosha. Above all, if symptoms worsen, immediate medical advice should be sought.

Sabja seeds, also known as sweet basil seeds, are indeed packed with health benefits including aiding digestion, weight management, and skin health. They’re cooling in nature, which can be great for balancing pitta dosha, but there can be nuances based on individual constitution and current state. Drinking sabja water daily, especially in relation to digestion, can sometimes cause issues like bloating or cramps more prominently if there’s an existing imbalance in your digestive fire, or agni.

Given you’re experiencing bloating and cramps, it suggests the introduction of sabja might be counterproductive to your current digestive routine. These symptoms could be a sign of vata imbalance, as sabja has a cooling and even slightly laxative effect, which sometimes doesn’t pair well with certain digestive conditions especially if your agni is not fully balanced. When the natural heat necessary for digestion gets countered, it might disrupt that delicate balance.

Considering you already have a morning routine of water with lemon and honey, it might be that the acidity from the lemon is getting increased with the additional moisture and cool substance of the sabja water, leading to excess moisture in the gut or to digestion sluggishness. Try separating the time of consumption between these two drinks or perhaps limiting the sabja water to 2-3 times a week and monitor your body’s response. Adjust as needed based on symptoms.

In cases of severe reaction, do pause and consider discussing it with an Ayurvedic practitioner who can guide you more specifically based on a thorough assessment of your prakriti and vikriti. Paying attention to how foods and drinks affect you is key, and don’t hesitate to discontinue use immediately if discomfort persists. Safety and comfort should always prioritize above trends or generalized benefits.
