can shilajit be taken in summer - #37776
I am really curious about something that's been on my mind lately. A few weeks ago, I started feeling super drained and sluggish, and a friend suggested I try shilajit. You know, it’s all over the internet how great it is for energy and overall wellness! Anyway, I ordered some and have been using it for just a bit, but then I started wondering, can shilajit be taken in summer? I mean, is there something about the heat that could make it less effective or even harmful? Last summer, I felt totally wiped out and just relied on cold drinks and air conditioning to get through the heat, but this year I wanted to try something more natural. The bottle says it’s good for boosting energy, but I’m worried if I should just take it with all this heat. Does it have any side effects when it's hot outside? And what about digestion? I read somewhere that sometimes in the summer, our bodies can't handle certain things as well, and I'm kinda freaking out thinking it won’t work for me. Any insights would be awesome! Thanks!

Shilajit can indeed be taken in summer, but with mindful consideration of your body’s needs and the summer heat, particularly, if you’re feeling drained. Shilajit is a potent Rasayana (rejuvenative) in Ayurveda, known for enhancing stamina and vitality, which might be especially beneficial during the summer when fatigue seems more pronounced due to heat exposure. However, its heating nature requires balance, as too much heat can disturb Pitta dosha.
Firstly, it’s important to monitor the dosage. Typically a pea-sized amount of Shilajit is sufficient. If you notice excessive heat symptoms like skin rashes, irritability, or excessive sweating after starting Shilajit, you might want to lower your dose or pause intake. Consider balancing it with cooling practices, such as including foods like cucumbers, melons, and leafy greens. These help pacify Pitta and keep the body’s internal temperature in check.
In terms of digestion, since Shilajit enhances Agni (digestive fire), it can be particularly supportive; however, in high heat, our body’s digestive capacity can fluctuate. Consuming shilajit mixed with a glass of lukewarm water or milk in the morning may help support the digestive system multiply its benefits.
Hydration is crucial! Make sure you’re drinking enough water since Shilajit can increase metabolic activity, potentially leading to dehydration in hot weather. Herbal infusions with fennel or mint can help maintain fluid balance as well as provide a cooling effect.
If you, however, experience strong discomfort or if symptoms persist, it’s essential to consult with an ayurvedic practitioner or health professional. They can provide personalized advice based on your Prakriti (body constitution) and current health status. It’s also a good to ensure the Shilajit you’re sourcing is genuine and tested for safety—it’s popular but can be sold in adulterated forms.
