Recurring chest heaviness and discomfort can arise from multiple factors, even when cardiac issues have been ruled out. In Ayurveda, such symptoms may result from an imbalance of Kapha and Vata doshas, or perhaps due to stress affecting Prana Vata, the vital energy governing the respiratory and cardiac function.
Firstly, assessing your lifestyle and diet can be crucial. Heavy or oily foods, lack of exercise, and irregular eating patterns can aggravate Kapha, leading to accumulation and blockages. Consider adjusting your diet to minimize Kapha-aggravating foods — avoid dairy, fried foods, and excessive sweets. Embrace a diet rich in vegetables, whole grains, and warm herbal teas like ginger or tulsi, which helps in balancing Kapha and promoting better digestion.
In terms of Ayurvedic supplements, consider herbs like Arjuna (Terminalia arjuna), known for its cardiac wellness properties. This can be taken as a powder with warm water or mixed with honey daily. Another useful formulation is Gokshuradi Guggulu which can help support overall cardiovascular health, taken under the guidance of an Ayurvedic practitioner.
As for diagnostic tests, although modern medicine has not found anything with the heart, you may want to explore a complete blood panel to rule out inbalance in electrolytes, thyroid function, or anaemia. Additionally an an X-ray might help to ensure there aren’t any subtle changes missed during previous tests.
It is beneficial to practice Pranayama (breathing exercises) like Anulom Vilom or Brahmari Pranayama. These techniques can help regulate Prana Vata and reduce anxiety. Try these daily, preferably early morning in a calm environment.
If the discomfort persists or exacerbates, returning to your healthcare provider for further evaluation might be necessary. It’s essential to be mindful of any severe symptoms that require immediate medical attention i.e. shortness breath, severe sweating, or pain radiating to shoulder or arm and seek appropriate emergency care immediately.
