how to increase your body temperature - #39193

Andrew

I am really struggling with feeling cold all the time. Like, I'm always wrapped up in blankets, even when everyone else is comfy. A couple weeks ago, I went to the doctor since I thought something might be wrong, and they did some tests. They said my thyroid and everything were fine, but I'm just concerned because my body temperature is often way lower than average. I've been looking up how to increase your body temperature naturally because I can’t stand this anymore! Even my hands and feet are ice-cold, and it’s driving me bananas!! I've tried drinking warm drinks and even doing some light exercises, but nothing seems to help much. I did read somewhere that certain foods or herbs might be helpful? Like, I've heard ginger is good for circulation, or maybe cinnamon? 😩 But what else could I try? Is there like a good combination of foods or drinks that can help with how to increase your body temperature effectively? Also, could stress or my sleep habits be playing a role in this? It feels like such a mess right now, and I just want to feel normal again. Thanks for any tips!

Your experience of feeling cold consistently may indicate an imbalance in your body’s internal systems, particularly an inadequacy in your agni (digestive fire) or an imbalance in the Vata or Kapha doshas, which govern circulation and body temperature. However, since your thyroid is functioning typically, let’s focus on some practical Ayurvedic advice to help you boost your body temperature naturally and enhance circulation.

Engaging in a Vata and Kapha-pacifying diet can be beneficial. Include warming spices like ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, and cumin in your meals. These spices stimulate circulation, nourish agni, and provide warmth. Consuming a warm, cooked diet focusing on easy-to-digest foods like soups, stews, and porridges can help maintain steady internal warmth. Avoid cold, raw, or overly processed foods, as they may dampen the agni.

Sipping on herbal teas throughout the day, such as ginger tea or fenugreek tea, can simultaneously warm your body and improve circulation. Both ginger and fenugreek are known for their heating qualities. Be careful with caffeine as it can interfere with doshic balance.

Abhyanga, the practice of self-massage using warmed sesame oil, is highly recommended in Ayurveda for increasing body temperature and calming the Vata dosha. Perform this oild massage in the morning before bathing to invigorate your circulation.

Stress and irregular sleep patterns can indeed affect body temperature. Incorporate routines like yoga, pranayama, and meditation into your daily regimen to regulate stress and support restful sleep. Try to maintain a regular sleep schedule going to bed and waking up at consistent times.

If despite these changes, your symptoms persist or worsen, it might be helpful to consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner who can analyze your unique prakriti and vikriti (current health state) for a more tailored approach. In cases where persistent coldness is debilitating or interferes with daily life, it’s important to ensure that there are no underlying health conditions that need to be addressed.
