Colitis and stomach issues can be quite uncomfortable, especially with excitable diets including foods like red and green chile. For your father, detoxifying remedies can be useful, but it’s critical to approach this with care, particularly due to his age.

Firstly, easing the digestive burden is key. Consider incorporating a simple, nourishing diet primarily focused on foods like warm, cooked vegetables, rice or quinoa, and lean proteins like tofu or chicken. Avoid processed foods and overly spicy dishes, given their irritative potential. Emphasize softer, more easily digestible foods like khichdi (a porridge-like mixture of rice and lentils) which suts various constitutions and aids in digestion.

Hydration is pivotal; encourage him to drink warm water throughout the day. This can maintain digestive pace and help expunge toxins. Adding a small slice of fresh ginger to warm water can promote digestive fire, or ‘agni’, without exacerbating irritation.

Ayurvedically, fennel and cumin teas are beneficial. Prepare these by boiling a teaspoon of either seeds in water for 10 minutes, then strain and drink this tea twice daily; it helps soothe the stomach and improves digestion.

Triphala, an Ayurvedic formula, is también incredibly useful for maintaining gut health. It’s a blend of three fruits: Amla, Haritaki, and Bibhitaki. Taken cautiously—typically 1 teaspoon mixed with warm water before bed— this can encourage healthy digestion and mild detoxification.

Gentle yoga practices and pranayama like Anulom Vilom could further support his health by reducing stress and aiding digestive function. But be sure to consult with a qualified instructor to avoid, injury or strain.

Avoiding heavy meals late at night and ensuring, regular meal timings can stabilize digestive patterns. As always, considering any serious medical concerns, consult your healthcare provider before starting new regimens. If his symptoms persist or worsen, seek medical advice immediately.

For your dad’s colitis and stomach issues, consider adopting dietary changes that align with his body’s current needs. First, focus on incorporating easy-to-digest, soothing foods into his meal plan. Mung dal khichdi, a simple mixture of mung beans and rice, could be particularly beneficial. Its light texture helps calm the digestive system and supports agni, the digestive fire. Cook it with a bit of turmeric and ginger, both of which have anti-inflammatory properties and aid in digestion.

Reducing the intake of spicy and processed foods, like red and green chile, is crucial for minimizing irritation in the colon. Caution against raw salads and uncooked foods as these can further aggravate vata, which is often imbalanced in colitis. Opt instead for steamed or boiled vegetables, like carrots and squash, which offer nutrition without overstimulating the gut.

For detoxification, consider Triphala, a traditional formulation using three fruits, which supports bowel health and might help detoxify the stomach. One teaspoon of Triphala powder mixed with warm water before bed could gently cleanse and stabilize digestion. However, ensure that a certified practitioner checks suitability for your dad’s specific health conditions as he’s in his 70s.

Hydration is also key. Encourage the consumption of room temperature water, perhaps with a few fenugreek seeds soaked overnight, sipped throughout the day to help soothe the gut lining.

In case of severe pain, bleeding, or unexplained weight loss, prompt medical attention is necessary, as colitis can sometimes lead to more serious conditions. Avoid delay in seeking professional medical guidance when needed. Always keep these recommendations aligned with any ongoing medical treatments he is under to ensure they complement and not interfere with them.
