Hello I completely understand how distressing it must be to experience frequent loose motions, alternating constipation, gas, and abdominal discomfort for such a long time.

✅YOUR CONCERN – Frequent loose motions – Alternating constipation – Bloating – Abdominal Discomfort

Your symptoms — alternating diarrhea and constipation, gas, and stomach pain — indicate Agni and Dosha imbalance, mainly involving Vata and Pitta doshas.

Loose motions (Diarrhea) with burning or watery stool suggest Pittaja Atisara, where excessive Pitta heats and irritates the intestinal mucosa.

Constipation and gas are signs of Vata prakopa in the Pakvashaya (colon).

This condition can be correlated with Grahani Dosha in Ayurveda — a disorder where the small intestine (Grahani) loses its normal tone due to disturbed Agni, leading to irregular bowel habits, abdominal pain, and alternating diarrhea-constipation patterns.

✅PROBABALE CAUSES

–Frequent intake of fried, oily, spicy, and heavy foods. –Eating before previous food is digested (Adhyashana). –Excessive stress or anxiety (Chinta, Shoka) disturbing Vata-Pitta. –Inadequate sleep and irregular meal timings. –Prolonged use of antibiotics or chemical medicines disturbing gut flora.

✅AYURVEDIC PLAN OF TREATMENT

✅ INTERNAL MEDICATION

1. Kutajarishta – 15 ml with equal water twice daily after meals. ( Excellent for controlling diarrhea and restoring normal bowel tone.)

2. Bilwadi Churna – 1 teaspoon with buttermilk twice daily after meals. ( Works as a natural antidiarrheal, reduces mucosal inflammation and pain.)

3. Hingwashtaka Churna – ½ teaspoon with warm water before meals. ( Relieves flatulence, abdominal distension, and regulates Vata.)

4. Avipattikar Churna – ½ teaspoon with lukewarm water at bedtime. ( Balances excess Pitta, relieves acidity, and prevents constipation.)

5. Mebarid 1-0-1 after food ( Improves appetite, nourishes Agni, and helps in post-diarrheal weakness.)

✅PANCHAKARMA THERAPY

Once bowel movements stabilize and frequency reduces, mild detoxification is beneficial

Mridu Virechana (gentle purgation) can help remove residual Pitta and Ama.

In chronic cases, Takra Basti (buttermilk enema) or Dashmoola Niruha Basti course under expert supervision gives excellent results in regulating Vata and strengthening intestines.

✅ DIET MODIFICATION

✅Include

Warm, freshly prepared, soft, and light foods. Moong dal khichdi, rice gruel (Peya), boiled vegetables, and clear soups. Buttermilk (Takra) with roasted cumin and rock salt daily after lunch. Jeera (cumin), dhania (coriander), saunf (fennel), ajwain, and hing in cooking aid digestion. Use cow’s ghee moderately—it soothes Pitta and regulates Vata.

❌ Avoid

Fried, oily, spicy, and sour foods. Fermented foods, bakery items, cold drinks, and curd at night. Heavy pulses (chana, rajma), excess tea/coffee, and alcohol. Eating late at night or skipping meals.

✅ LIFESTYLE MODIFICATION

Maintain regular meal and sleep timing; eat only when previous food is digested. Avoid daytime sleep and late-night activities. Practice Yoga postures like Vajrasana after meals, Pawanmuktasana, and Apanasana for gas relief. Pranayama like Anulom Vilom and Sheetali twice daily balances Vata–Pitta and calms the mind. Manage stress through short meditation, journaling, or walking in fresh air — as mental stress directly affects Agni.

✅ FFECTIVE HOME REMEDIES

1. Cumin–Coriander–Fennel Decoction: Boil 1 tsp each in 3 cups of water, reduce to 1 cup, and sip warm throughout the day. Helps relieve gas, bloating, and restores appetite.

2. Pomegranate Peel Decoction: Boil dry pomegranate peel in 2 cups of water till it reduces to half; drink warm twice daily. Soothes inflamed intestines and controls loose stools.

3. Buttermilk Therapy: ½ cup buttermilk with roasted cumin powder and a pinch of rock salt after meals daily. Strengthens gut flora and improves digestion.

4. For Constipation Days: Take 1 tsp cow ghee in warm milk at bedtime.

5. Ajwain-Hing paste: Mix ajwain powder + a pinch of hing with warm water and take after meals to relieve flatulence.

With proper Ayurvedic management, Grahani Dosha and Atisara–Vibandha (alternating diarrhea-constipation) can be completely corrected.

Usually, within 3–4 weeks, you’ll notice improved digestion, reduced frequency of motions, and better energy levels. Consistency in diet, medicine, and stress control is the key.

Warm Regards Dr Snehal Vidhate

HELLO,

You are experiencing irregular digestion- sometimes fast (diarrhea) a, sometimes slow (constipation), along with gas, bloating and stomach pain

In Ayurveda this is described as -“Grahani dosha”- a disorder of the small intestine caused by disturbed digestive fire

AYURVEDIC INTERPRETATION -AGNI DUSHTI (weak or irregular digestive fire)- leads to incomplete digestion -AMA (toxic undigested food residue) accumulates in the gut, producing gas and discomfort -VATA IMBALANCE= causes gas, pain and irregular bowels -PITTA IMBALANCE= causes burning, loose stools, and irritation -STRESS AND WRONG FOOD HABITS aggravate both vata and pitta

Hence, your condition is primarily vata-pitta grahani with ama

TREATMENT GOALS -restore digestive fire- improve digestion and metabolism -eliminate ama - remove toxins that are producing gas and irregular bowels -stabilize bowel movement-prevent alternating diarrhea and constipation -strengthen intestines- tone the gut lining and balance doshas -calm stress- reduce mind -gut connection triggers -promote long term digestive discipline

INTERNAL MEDICATIONS

BUTTERMILK WITH ROASTED CUMIN AND ROCK. SALT= 1 cup after lunch daily = natural probiotic , strengthens gut flora, reduces ama and gas

NOTE If diarrhoea becomes severe-> stop triphala temporarily continue kutajarishta and mustakarishta If constipation worsens-> add 1 tsp castor oil in warm milk at bedtime once a week

DIET A balanced diet is the foundation of your treatment Follow light, warm, digestible, freshly cooked food -khichdi, moong dal soup, rice gruel- easy to digest, Balances Vata and pitta -cooked vegetables- bottle gourd, ridge gourd, ash gourd, carrot, pumpkin -spices= cumin, coriander, ajwian, fennel, ginger, turmeric - all in moderation -cow ghee= small quantity improves digestion and lubricates intestines -warm water sip throughout the day to flush ama -buttermilk with rock salt and roasted cumin- excellent for gas and indigestion

AVOID -fried, oily, or spicy food- trigger for your symptoms -cold drinks, raw salads, heavy curd, and refined sugar -tea, coffee, alcohol, bakery products , and late night meals -reheated or stale food

LIFESTYLE -eat meals at fixed times daily, do not skip breakfast -chew food slowly and avoid eating when stressed or emotional -avoid lying down for at least 2 hours after eating sit in vajrasaa for 5 min after meals -ensure 7-8 hours of sleep, avoid staying up late -keep bowel routine fixed; go to toilet only when urge arises not frocibly -reduce stress- digestive problems often worsen with anxiety

It’s important to address these digestive issues correctly as they seem persistent. In Ayurveda, such symptoms can indicate an imbalance in the digestive fire, or agni, possibly due to irregular lifestyles or diets, and might involve an imbalance in vata dosha and possibly pitta.

First, let’s focus on your diet. Avoid cold, raw foods as these can dampen agni and vata. Favor warm, cooked meals like khichdi or mung dal soup. Be cautious with spicy and oily foods that can aggravate pitta and lead to increased gas and diarrhea. Include ginger in your meals; it’s great for stimulating agni and reducing gas. You could drink ginger tea before meals too. Another helpful option is triphala at night. This helps balance vata and normalize bowel function — mix a teaspoon in warm water and drink it before bedtime.

For immediate relief from diarrhea, pomegranate juice mixed with a pinch of ginger and cumin powder can help — try half a cup twice a day. Also, stay hydrated with warm water. Avoid sugary drinks, and instead consider coconut water which is soothing and balancing.

Addressing gas, chew fennel seeds after meals, or sip on cumin-coriander-fennel (CCF) tea. To help relieve stomach pain which might be cramping due to gas, apply warm sesame oil on your abdomen and cover with a hot towel for 10-15 min.

In terms of lifestyle, maintain regular meal times, practice stress-reducing activities like yoga or pranayama daily to calm both mind and digestion. Try not eating late at night; aim for your last meal three hours before bed.

However, given the frequency of your diarrhea and history of symptoms, please consult a healthcare professional without delay to rule out more serious conditions, as such symptoms can be signs of require medical intervention. Safety comes first.
