Normal Ayurvedic Treatment for Frozen Shoulder - #41403

Client_d8a455

What's the normal ayurvedic treatment for frozen shoulder? Very agonising and painful during involuntary movements and in the nights while sleeping. The pain is so bad that it disturbs my sleep. Some times my fingers move with an elastic movement. Pain at times is from the neck to my fingers.

In Ayurveda, frozen shoulder (known as Apabahuka) is generally linked to an imbalance in the Vata dosha. The condition’s pain, stiffness, and lack of mobility are associated with Vata’s drying and cooling qualities. To alleviate your symptoms, it’s crucial to work on pacifying Vata.

Dietary adjustments are important: prefer warm, cooked meals that are easily digestible. Stews, soups, and porridges with ghee, turmeric, and ginger can be beneficial due to their anti-inflammatory properties. Also, avoid cold and raw foods, which can aggravate Vata.

Oil massage, or Abhyanga, is an effective therapy. Use warm sesame oil or Mahanarayan oil, which is particularly beneficial for joint issues. Gently massage the shoulder area daily, if possible - do this in the morning followed by a warm shower to allow the oil to penetrate.

In terms of herbal remedies, consuming Ashwagandha can assist in reducing Vata’s overactivity, thereby easing the pain. Its adaptogenic properties help the body respond to pain and stress. Consider taking it with warm milk each evening before bed to promote sound sleep as well as soothing the nerves.

Some specific yoga poses can support the restoration of shoulder mobility. Tadasana (mountain pose) and gentle shoulder rotations are beneficial, making sure not to strain the shoulder during practice. Incorporate deep breathing to help relax muscle tensions.

Sleeping on your side might help reduce disturbance caused by pain. Try supporting your arm with a cushion to minimize movement during sleep.

Lastly, if the pain is severe, or increasing, a Panchakarma treatment like vasti (medicated enema) may be recommended, but always consult with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner before starting this process. Avoiding any aggravation, it might be advisable also to temporarily avoid heavy lifting and overly strenuous physical activity involving the shoulder complex.

Remember to stay hydrated, rest well, and consider periodic consultations with a healthcare provider, especially if symptoms worsen.
