Managing knee osteoarthritis through Ayurveda requires a holistic approach, focusing on balancing the Vata dosha, which is often linked to joint issues. Begin by incorporating a Vata-pacifying diet to help your condition. This includes warm, cooked meals like soups and stews rich in whole grains, root vegetables, and spices such as ginger and turmeric, which have anti-inflammatory properties. Minimize the intake of processed foods, cold drinks, and raw vegetables as they can aggravate Vata.

Weight management is crucial, as excess weight increases the pressure on your knees, exacerbating the pain. Aim for gradual weight loss through a balanced diet and gentle exercises like yoga or swimming, which are less stressful on the joints. Yoga postures, such as Vajrasana or Trikonasana, can improve flexibility and strength, but avoid any that cause pain.

Herbal remedies can also support your healing journey. Apply warm Mahanarayan oil or Dhanwantharam thailam to your knee, followed by a gentle massage to improve circulation and reduce pain. Leave it on for about 30 minutes before washing off. Guggulu, an Ayurvedic herb, is known for its anti-inflammatory benefits and can be consumed after consulting a practitioner for appropriate dosage.

Engage in daily routines like Abhyanga, a full body oil massage, which helps in soothing Vata and may provide relieve to the joints. Ensure a good sleep routine to support healing and energy levels.

Support your digestive fire (Agni) by drinking warm water throughout the day and including spices like cumin or fennel in your meals to aid digestion. Avoid heavy dinners and consider fasting once a week to improve digestion and metabolism.

For persistant or severe pain, please consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner or orthopedist to ensure tailored interventions and rule out the need for any immediate medical procedures to prevent further complications.

For managing persistent knee osteoarthritis, especially in a case like yours, first look at both the root causes and symptoms according to Siddha-Ayurvedic principles. With osteoarthritis, often there’s an imbalance in the vata dosha, which can lead to degeneration and dryness in the joint region. Also, the weight factor can increase pressure on knees, adding to the pain and discomfort.

Firstly, consider incorporating anti-inflammatory spices and herbs into your diet. Turmeric, with its active compound curcumin, can help reduce inflammation. Take 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder with warm water twice daily. Adding ginger in tea or meals can also support joint health.

For topical relief, you can try applying a warm sesame oil massage to the knee area. This can help pacify aggravated vata and improve circulation. Do this daily, before a warm shower which can help ease stiffness.

Dietary modifications are significant. Focus on warm, cooked meals that are easy to digest, avoiding cold, raw foods that can aggravate vata. Consume ghee to improve lubrication in joints and support agni, the digestive fire.

If weight management is feasible for you, gradual reduction can alleviate undue stress on your knees. Simple yoga postures, like Tadasana (Mountain Pose) and Sukhasana (Easy Pose), practiced gently, can improve flexibility without adding strain.

Finally, consider consulting a qualified practitioner skilled in kashayams or choornams (herbal decoctions) specific to reducing vata and inflammation. It’s vital to ensure a full assessment of your prakriti (body constitution) for tailored advice.

However, consult a healthcare provider for any sudden increase in pain or new symptoms, to rule out severe conditions. Balancing traditional remedies with modern medical advice can ensure comprehensive care.
