Seeking Remedies for Vata Pitta Imbalance with Digestive and Skin Issues - #41927
I am a VataPitta and since it’s fall season, I might be having both Vata Pitta imbalance. I am having irregular bowel movements with problems of fecal incontinence at times and a little bit of constipation at other times. I also have itchy skin now with fall, tired eyes and allergies that cause sneezing. Can you suggest some remedies? Thanks.

Addressing a Vata-Pitta imbalance, especially in the fall, involves harmonizing both doshas. Your digestive issues reflect a distressed agni (digestive fire). Start with avoiding cold, raw foods and focus on warm, cooked meals. Incorporate naturally sweet and mild foods like rice, oatmeal, and root vegetables, which help ground Vata and soothe Pitta. Add a bit of ghee to your meals, as it’s nourishing and cooling.
For digestive regulation, try a warm glass of water with a teaspoon of triphala powder each evening before bed. Triphala aids digestion, balances all three doshas, and ensures regular bowel movements. If fecal incontinence persists, it may be wise to consult an Ayurvedic practitioner directly, as this might require personalized treatment.
To ease constipation, drink warm water throughout the day. A teaspoon of flaxseeds soaked overnight in water also could help; they lubricate the intestines, alleviating constipation. However, for itchy skin and allergies, focus on hydration and anti-inflammatory foods. Coconut oil applied gently on the skin can relieve itching, while turmeric in your diet could reduce inflammation.
Addressing tired eyes may involve cooling eye baths—splashing your eyes with room temperature water can revive them. Practicing alternate nostril breathing (Nadi Shodhana) every morning might offer relief from allergies and help you find balance.
Engage in a daily self-massage (abhyanga) with warm sesame oil to pacify Vata, and maintain a fixed sleep schedule to encourage restful nights. Avoid stimulants like caffeine and choose calming teas, such as chamomile, instead. Maintaining a routine, like consistent meal times, sleep, and exercise, also supports your overall balance through this transition period. If symptoms worsen, seeking a professional consultation is advisable.
