Doctors’ responses
Hello Mr Subeesh, sorry to hear about the disability but can you please explain which area of your body is affected due to paralysis/neuropathy? Any other health issues please mention. Without adequate information it is difficult to guide you.
I am truly sorry to hear about your condition and the challenges you are facing due to peripheral neuropathy and paralysis. It’s important to understand that managing such complex conditions requires a comprehensive approach, and Ayurveda can offer supportive therapies aimed at improving your overall well-being.
To provide you with more personalized guidance, it would be helpful to know more about your medical history, including any treatments or therapies you have already tried, as well as any specific symptoms you are experiencing, such as pain, muscle weakness, or digestive issues. Additionally, understanding your diet, lifestyle, and emotional well-being can guide us in creating a tailored plan that may include herbal remedies, dietary recommendations, and gentle therapies to support your recovery and enhance your quality of life. Please share any further details you feel comfortable discussing.
I’m really sorry to hear about your situation. Dealing with peripheral neuropathy especially since it’s genetic, can be quite a challenging journey. In Ayurveda, we focus on balancing the doshas to restore harmony in the body. With your condition, there might be an imbalance in Vata dosha, which could be affecting the nervous system.
Since you’re paralyzed, movement is limited but don’t worry, there are still things that might help within the scope of your condition. It’s important that any recommendation should be practical for your lifestyle. Simple daily practices are the key.
First, you could look into regular oil massages (Abhyanga). Using warm sesame oil or Mahanarayan oil can help nourish the nerves. If someone can do a gentle massage for you, that might support Vata balance. This might not reverse the paralysis, but it could bring some comfort and improve skin and muscle condition over time. It would be best if this is done in the morning before bathing.
For diet, a Vata-pacifying diet might help. Think warm, moist, and easily digestible foods. Soups, khichadi, and stews with warming spices like ginger could be beneficial. Avoid cold and dry foods that can aggravate Vata like raw salads, cold drinks, or dry snacks.
If possible, gentle breathwork or Pranayama exercises can also be beneficial. Despite the paralysis, focus on deep breathing can increase vitality and reduce stress levels. Bhramari or Anulom Vilom are both calming options.
It’s critical to give attention to your mental and emotional health too. Mediation, guided relaxation, or simply listening to calming music can be healing.
Of course, you should always be in touch with your healthcare team to ensure any new approach complements your current treatment. It’s all about integrating gently within what your body can accommodate. If you ever feel sudden changes or discomfort, please seek professional medical assistance immediately. It’s crucial to blend holistic methods safely in your journey.
