Allergic conjunctivitis can be quite uncomfortable, especially for your young grandson. Ayurveda, with its holistic approach, can offers long-term relief by addressing the root cause rather than just the symptoms. The goal is to balance the doshas, especially pitta and kapha, which are often involved in such conditions.
To start, diet and lifestyle are crucial. Encourage your grandson to include foods that pacify both pitta and kapha doshas. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are beneficial, while spicy, oily, and fried foods should be limited. Drinking plenty of water helps maintain overall hydration and can support eye health. Aloe vera juice, a teaspoon daily, can help soothe pitta.
Ayurvedic herbs like Triphala are highly recommended for eye health. Preparing a decoction and washing the eyes daily can reduce redness and irritation over time. Haridra Khand, a herbal formulation, can be administered—consult an Ayurveda doctor for the precise dosage suitable for your grandson.
Regular pranayama practice, like Anulom Vilom or Brahmari, can improve respiratory functions and reduce allergic reactions. Simple meditation and yoga postures like Trikonasana (Triangle Pose) and Marjaryasana (Cat Pose) can be beneficial for balancing doshas.
For external application, rose water or cotton soaked in Triphala water, could be placed on the eyes. This has soothing properties and can help alleviate symptoms. Ensure these are prepared hygienically to avoid any contamination.
Consult with an Ayurvedic doctor in your area to get a personalized plan that considers your grandson’s unique constitution and any coexisting health issues. Regular follow-ups can help adjust the treatment as needed. This integrative approach is slow but can provide lasting relief, reducing dependency on steroid drops.
Keeping the environment free from allergens, like pollen and dust, is also important for preventing flare-ups. A clean living area and possibly an air purifier can help reduce exposure to common allergens.
Monitor the progression and consult both Ayurvedic and traditional healthcare to ensure a balanced treatment strategy.
