Irregular periods can often be linked to imbalances in the doshas, especially vata and pitta. It’s important to focus on grounding and cooling practices. Start by examining your daily routine and make time for consistent, balanced meals to regulate your agni, or digestive fire. Eating at the same time each day helps maintain your body’s rhythm.
Emphasize warm, freshly cooked foods. Soups, stews, and lightly spiced dishes with cumin, coriander, and fennel can be particularly beneficial. Avoid processed, cold and excessively spicy foods, as they can further aggravate vata and pitta imbalances.
Hydration is crucial – but drink warm or lukewarm water, as this can help balance your internal processes and support proper hydration. Herbal teas, like ginger or mint, can soothe and harmonize any internal disharmony.
Routine is vital for vata balance, so try to keep a regular sleep schedule and create a calming bedtime routine. Yoga and gentle exercises like walking can also assist in maintaining balance.
Ashwagandha and Shatavari are two herbs commonly recommended in Siddha-Ayurveda for hormonal balance, but I advise consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner before starting any herbal regimen to ensure it matches your prakriti.
Lastly, stress reduction through meditation or deep-breathing exercises can help moderate any pitta-driven unrest. If irregular periods persist, especially with pain or unusual symptoms, please seek medical evaluation to exclude any other concerns.
