Chronic sinusitis can be persistent and uncomfortable, impacting various areas associated with the respiratory system and beyond. Since you’ve already had nasal polyp surgery, it’s important to focus on ongoing management and relief of these symptoms. An imbalance of the Kapha dosha is likely, which can contribute to excess mucus and congestion. Addressing this through diet and lifestyle might bring some ease.

Start with dietary changes. Favor a diet that pacifies Kapha, focusing on warm, light, and dry foods that are easy to digest. Include warming spices like ginger, black pepper, and turmeric in your meals, as these can help break up mucus and support respiratory function. Avoid dairy products, cold foods, and fried or oily items as they may aggravate your symptoms further.

Steam inhalation can be beneficial for sinus clearance. Boil water and add a drop or two of eucalyptus or peppermint oil. Breathe deeply with a towel over your head and the pot to trap the steam. Doing this for about 5-10 minutes daily can help with decongestion and ease the pressure in the sinuses.

Neti pot can also be quite effective. Use a saline solution to flush the nasal passages. Be careful to use only sterile or distilled water to avoid any potential infections.

For the burning sensation and ear itching, application of warm sesame oil or medicated oils like Anu Taila around the ears might provide relief. Apply gently and avoid inserting anything into the ear canal, especially if there’s any discomfort or hearing issues.

Yoga and Pranayama exercises are beneficial. Breathing techniques like Bhastrika and Kapalbhati can help to clear blocked sinuses and improve respiratory function. Include poses such as Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) and Setu Bandhasana (Bridge Pose) that open the chest and reduce tightness in the upper back area.

Be mindful of allergens and irritants in your environment and try to maintain a clean living space to reduce exposure. If your symptoms persist, it may be important to consult with a healthcare professional to rule out other causes and consider integrative approaches.

Chronic sinusitis often indicates an imbalance in the kapha dosha, leading to blockages and excessive mucus production. Based on your symptoms, there’s likely involvement of vata, causing the headache and nervous system symptoms like pain in the upper back. Pitta may contribute to the burning sensations. Ayurvedic treatment focuses on restoring the balance among these doshas.

For addressing sinus blockages, perform steam inhalation with a few drops of eucalyptus or peppermint oil. This can aid in clearing nasal passages. Try this once daily, preferably in the evening to ensure clear nasal passages before sleep.

Include herbs such as haridra (turmeric) and trikatu (ginger, long pepper, and black pepper) in your diet. These can help in reducing inflammation and clearing mucus. You could make a warm tea with these, consumed twice daily after meals.

Consider gentle nasya (nasal) therapy using warm sesame oil or Anu taila. Apply two to three drops in each nostril, preferably in the morning. This can help lubricate and open nasal passages, easing your headaches.

Follow a kapha-pacifying diet. Avoid dairy, cold foods, and excess starches; favor light, warm, and spiced meals. Drink warm water; it assists digestion and helps clear mucus.

Regular practice of yogic breathing or pranayama, focusing on alternate nostril breathing, may stabilize vata and pitta, promoting relaxation. It should be done when you feel relaxed—not in the middle of symptoms.

Since nasal polyps can recur, continue following with your regular healthcare provider regarding changes or worsening symptoms. If symptoms persist or worsen, you should reconsider consulting an ENT specialist as some cases need more direct medical intervention. Avoid delaying care for new or severe symptoms.
