Doctors' responses
Addressing food allergies in Ayurveda requires a unique approach focusing on the root imbalances, particularly with your digestion and immune response. Milk and besan allergies suggest an imbalance in Kapha and Pitta doshas which may lead to heightened inflammatory response. It is essential to strengthen your agni, or digestive fire, and to balance these doshas.
First, eliminate milk, besan, and close derivatives from your diet strictly. Consider substituting milk with options like almond or coconut milk, which may be more easily digestible and less reactive. Similarly, avoid foods with besan (gram flour) and explore alternatives like rice flour or quinoa flour, depending on your tolerance and nutritional needs.
Adopt a calming lifestyle to manage Kapha and Pitta. Practice deep, slow breathing exercises like pranayama to help cool down your system and reduce stress-related inflammation. Regular physical activity that is suitable to your comfort level, like walking or gentle yoga, can improve circulation and help remove toxins from your system.
For dietary changes, incorporate warm, easily digestible foods, avoiding cold and heavy meals. Favor spices like turmeric, ginger and cumin, which can support digestion and have anti-inflammatory properties. A ginger tea with a dash of honey could be beneficial.
Consider keeping a food diary to identify subtle reactions to foods that you might not be aware of and consult an Ayurvedic practitioner for herbs like Brahmi or Ashwagandha that might help modulate your body’s response.
Remember, while Ayurveda can offer support, severe or worsening allergic reactions should be guided by professional medical advice. If symptoms like rashes become intense, seek immediate medical attention and continue using antihistamines like Cetirizine as needed.
