Doctors' responses
In Ayurveda, trigeminal neuralgia is often associated with vata vitiation, particularly affecting the nervous system, or Majja dhatu. You’re experiencing recurring symptoms, suggesting that a more comprehensive approach is necessary.
Firstly, keeping vata under control is crucial. Incorporate a vata-pacifying diet which typically includes warm, cooked, and slightly oily foods. Aim to include more sweet, sour, and salty tastes, and reduce intake of bitter, astringent, and pungent flavors. Cooked grains like rice, wheat, and oats along with well-cooked vegetables such as asparagus, beetroot, and carrots are beneficial. Avoid cold, dry foods and gassy vegetables like broccoli or beans.
Brihat Vata Chintamani is a good start, as you noted positive effects initially. Continue under an Ayurvedic practitioner’s guidance for dosage adjustments. Complement it with Ashwagandha to support nerve health and overall vitality.
Abhyanga, the Ayurvedic self-massage with sesame oil, helps balance vata dosha and improves circulation; gently massage your face and affected area each morning.
Stress management is vital. Practices like Pranayama, particularly Anulom Vilom and Nadi Shodhana, can be very calming for vata. Daily meditation, even for ten minutes, may also help in managing stress levels that can exacerbate symptoms.
Try also to maintain regular sleep patterns, as erratic schedules can aggravate vata.
For more acute pain management, consider herbal remedies like Shallaki (Boswellia) or curcumin, but again, use these under professional supervision to ensure safety and efficacy.
Persistent weak feeling on the side of your face should be checked by a healthcare provider to rule out any neurological issues.
Make sure you maintain regular consultations with your healthcare provider, exploring integrative approaches that align with your current treatment plan for a sustainable healing process.
