Advice for Pale Yellowish Skin and Weakness - #45152

Ashok

My original skin tone is medium–dark. Since 2024, my body skin has become paleness. And gradually, from December 2024, my skin started turning a light yellow. Even now, it still looks pale and yellowish and sallow skin. Initially, I thought it might be jaundice, but my eyes are a normal colour, and the skin is not a deep yellow—it's more of a light, pale yellow. I noticed another sign: when I exercise, like running or cycling, my skin turns even lighter yellow. This never happened before. Earlier, after exercising, my face, hands, and feet would become red and look healthy. Another sign I noticed was that when I clench my hand for a while, it doesn’t turn red—it stays white with only a little redness. This never happened before. Earlier, when I did any activity at home, my hands and face would become red. I also sometimes feel weak or fatigued. For this, I avoid all kinds of fast food, tea, sugar, vegetables , food cooked in oil, masala , and haldi. I also avoid meat and eggs. Only I eat boiled vegetables and rice. I do several blood tests: WBC : 6.62 RBC : 5.13 HGB : 13.3 TSH : 3.14 LIVER FUNCTION TEST (LFT) Bilirubin Total : 0.9 D.Bilirubin : 0.3 I.D.Bilirubin : 0.6 SGPT : 40 SGOT : 44 Alkaline Phosphatase : 68 Total Protein : 7.4 Globulin : 2.8 Albumin; serum : 4.6 A/G Ratio : 1.64 (KFT) Creatinine; Serum : 1.1 Sir, I want to know if it is possible to give any tips or advice without knowing the exact cause of my pale yellowish skin. Is there anything I can do or eat that might help the pale yellow skin disappear and bring back my normal skin color? Would it be possible to give such advice?

Doctors' responses

From what you have mentioned and from your reports , you don’t have either anaemia or jaundice Your HB and bilirubin levels are normal The pale yellow tone you are noticing is more likely due to low nourishment weak digestion and reduced blood circulation to the skin This can happen when the diet becomes too restricted for many months

Include ghee in diet Avoid fast food don’t keep the diet too bland every day Start on Kumarasava 10 ml with equal water after lunch and dinner Punarnavadi mandura 1 tablet after lunch Include Amlaki rasayana 1 tsp everyday

This is an intriguing situation with noticeable changes in your skin tone and energy levels. While your blood tests seem mostly within normal range, the pale yellow skin and weakness suggest that further investigation may be needed, especially since your lifestyle and diet are quite restrictive.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, some imbalances in Pitta or even Vata dosha can affect skin color and energy levels. Your restrictive diet might be contributing to a Vata imbalance, leading to weakness and sallow skin.

Dietary Considerations:

1. Balanced Diet: Rather than limiting your diet to just boiled vegetables and rice, incorporate whole grains, lentils, and seasonal fruits. Sattvic foods like moong dal khichdi or steamed vegetables with a dash reasonable spices could boost digestion.

2. Healthy Fats: Include healthy fats like ghee, sesame oil, or coconut oil. These can enhance the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins essential for skin health.

3. Iron and Vitamin C-rich Foods: Add cooked spinach, beetroot, carrots, along with sources of Vitamin C like amla or oranges. This can improve iron absorption, supporting healthier blood quality and potentially your skin tone.

Herbal Remedies:

1. Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia): Known for its detoxifying properties, it may help maintain liver health, which in Ayurveda is deeply connected to skin tone.

2. Amla (Indian Gooseberry): Besides vitamin C content, it’s a powerful antioxidant helpful in enhancing skin health and overall vitality.

Lifestyle Suggestions:

1. Abhyanga (Oil Massage): A daily warm oil massage can support blood circulation, improve skin tone, and balance vata, increasing physical strength.

2. Pranayama and Meditation: Regular practice can improve oxygenation and calm the mind, possibly enhancing both skin appearance and vitality.

Further Actions:

Consulting with an Ayurveda practitioner might help identify possible agni (digestive fire) imbalances or other deeper issues that require specific attention. Reducing excessive dietary restrictions and integrating balanced food choices could help restore your natural skin tone and energy levels over time.

For any concern about your symptoms worsening or changes in your condition, it’s vital to seek direct medical evaluation to rule out any underlying conditions ensuring no severe health issue is unaddressed.

The changes in your skin tone and energy levels suggest an imbalance that needs more investigation, considering your diet and test results. Your symptoms, particularly the skin’s yellowish tone and weakness, could be related to an imbalance in your body’s doshas, especially Pitta. The diet you mentioned avoiding—like fast food, tea, masala, haldi—are wise choices, given these can aggravate Pitta or Vata dosha, and you’re focusing on boiled vegetables and rice, which are more calming and grounding.

Checking for anemia or nutrient deficiencies from the bloodwork you’ve shared seems okay, but it’s still wise to keep a close eye on your hemoglobin levels, as a slight drop may relate to your symptoms. A diet more balanced in whole grains, lentils, and a variety of vegetables is helpful. Consider adding ghee to your meals; it supports digestion and can balance Agni, or digestive fire.

You may benefit from including specific herbs known traditionally in Siddha medicine, like Amla (Emblica Officinalis), which can help with improving skin tone and energy. Drink half a cup of Amla juice or consume two to three Amla fruits daily for enhancing your tissue strength.

If you feel ongoing fatigue and these symptoms persist, it’s crucial to consult a healthcare provider. Potential thyroid or liver function abnormalities might not always show in the standard tests shared here but could influence your condition. Regular monitoring and adapting your lifestyle and diet with a practitioner’s advice is recommended. Remember, catching early signs is better, and sometimes contemporary medicine and Ayurveda together can provide the best outcome.
