The numb sensation in your feet, similar to wearing socks, along with hip pain and aching quads could be related to issues with nerve function or circulation, possibly influenced by the presence of the nail and hinge in your left leg. In Ayurveda, these symptoms often relate to an imbalance in the Vata dosha, which governs movement and nervous functions in the body.

To address the Vata imbalance, begin by focusing on your diet and lifestyle. Warm, cooked foods that are easy to digest can help pacify Vata. Include vegetables like carrots, squash, and sweet potatoes in your meals. Warm milk with a pinch of turmeric before bedtime can soothe the nervous system. Avoid cold, raw foods, and dry foods, which can aggravate Vata.

Regular oil massage (abhyanga) is highly beneficial. Use warm sesame or almond oil and apply it to your feet, legs, and hips. This process not only improves circulation but also nerves functioning and joint lubrication. Massage before taking a warm shower, allowing the oils to sink deeply into tissues.

Yoga and gentle stretching can also be effective. Focus on poses that open the hips and strengthen leg muscles. Practices like child’s pose and legs-up-the-wall pose might be particularly helpful. Be mindful of your body’s limitations, especially due to the nail and hinge.

Incorporating herbs like Ashwagandha and Boswellia can support joint health and nerve function. Consult with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner to tailor these suggestions to your specific constitution and ensure they don’t interfere with any medical treatments you’re currently undergoing.

Given the chronic nature of these symptoms and the structural modifications in your leg, if numbness persists or worsens, consulting an orthopedic specialist is imperative. Sometimes issues like nerve compression from hardware need medical evaluation to prevent further complications.

Numbness in the feet, especially with the sensation of wearing socks, combined with hip issues and quad aches, might suggest a dosha imbalance, potentially with vata being prominent. Vata governs movement and the nervous system, and its disturbances often manifest as pain, numbness, or issues with joints and muscles.

To address this condition effectively, you can start by incorporating warmth into your daily routine. Apply warm sesame oil to your feet and hips in gentle, circular strokes, ideally in the morning or before bedtime. This practice helps pacify vata by promoting circulation and providing grounding warmth. Follow this by a warm bath or gentle heat packs if necessary.

Pay attention to your diet, ensuring it is vata-pacifying: focus on foods that are warm, moist, and nourishing. Think of cooked grains like rice or quinoa, warm milk with spices like turmeric, cardamom, or cinnamon, and cooked vegetables. Avoid raw foods, cold beverages, or overly dry items which may aggravate your symptoms.

Herbal formulations such as Ashwagandha, known for its vata-calming properties, may also support nerve health and muscle tone. It might be beneficial to consult a qualified practitioner to determine appropriate dosage and any necessary complementary herbs.

Be mindful of your posture and remain physically active with gentle exercises such as yoga or tai chi, which can improve joint flexibility and reduce pain. However, given the complexity of your condition, particularly with surgical history in the left leg, consider seeking advice from a specialist to ensure these recommendations align with your current medical needs.

Ensure to get evaluated if symptoms persist or worsen to rule out serious underlying conditions. Safety and timely care are paramount in managing your health effectively.
