Managing psoriasis, particularly on the soles of the feet, involves addressing both the symptoms and underlying causes in line with Ayurvedic principles. Psoriasis is often seen as an imbalance of the Vata and Kapha doshas, with factors like stress, inappropriate diet, and lifestyle playing significant roles.

First, take a holistic view. Your diet can greatly impact your skin health. Consume freshly-cooked, warm meals that are light and easy to digest, avoiding heavy, fried, or processed foods. Favor foods that calm down Vata and Kapha, such as warm milk with turmeric, soups, and stews. Minimize intake of spicy, sour, and fermented items, as they may aggravate Pitta and exacerbate inflammation. Include green leafy vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats to nourish the skin.

Externally, applying medicated oils like Mahamarichyadi thailam or Neem oil to the affected areas can provide relief. These oils have anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. To use, gently warm the oil and massage onto the cleaned feet; leave it on at least for 30 minutes and then rinse. This should be done twice a day.

The consistent management of stress through meditation, breathing exercises, and yoga can contribute significantly to balancing the mental aspect of psoriasis. Engaging in Trikonasana (Triangle pose) or Vrksasana (Tree pose) may help in this regard by promoting circulation and relieving stress.

Additionally, consult an Ayurvedic practitioner who may suggest detoxifying treatments like Panchakarma, specifically tailored to address your condition. It is important to follow this under the guidance of qualified professionals, as these therapies are powerful and targeted.

Avoid scratching to prevent infections, and if you note any signs of severe infection, seek immediate medical attention. Regular use of comfortable, breathable footwear reduces friction and trauma, encouraging healing. Remember, Ayurvedic management of psoriasis focuses not only on relief but also on holistic lifestyle changes that promote long-term health.
