- Likely cause: Vata–Kapha imbalance (chronic Eustachian tube blockage) - What you can do: Nasya (most important) Anu Taila or Shadbindu Taila 2 drops in each nostril, daily (morning) Warm oil massage Sesame oil Massage around ear, jaw, neck (don’t put oil inside ear) Steam inhalation With ajwain or eucalyptus, 2–3×/week Herbal support Sitopaladi churna ½ tsp with honey, twice daily Avoid Cold drinks, curd at night, cold wind on ears Cover ears in cold + warm food only ⚠️ Since it’s one-sided and 7 years old, see an ENT once to rule out structural issues.

I hear you this has been bothering you for a long time and seven years of constant muffled hearing with pain in cold and ringing can really wear you down so first let me say this is treatable and you are not imagining it When the eustachian tube stays blocked for so long it usually means there is chronic inflammation and poor ventilation of the middle ear not just a simple cold related block Cold air triggers pain because the tissues inside become sensitive and dry and the muffled slow sound along with tinnitus suggests fluid stagnation or pressure imbalance behind the eardrum From an Ayurvedic view this is mainly a Vata Kapha imbalance affecting the ear channels often worsened by cold exposure sinus congestion weak digestion stress or long standing allergies What you can start doing now is very important Keep your ears and head protected from cold wind avoid cold water head baths and do not expose the ear directly to AC or fan Nasya is one of the most effective therapies for this condition Daily morning instillation of two drops of warm Anu taila or plain warm sesame oil in both nostrils helps open the eustachian tube and improves drainage Gentle steam inhalation before nasya makes it work better Simple pranayama like anulom vilom and bhramari is excellent especially bhramari as it directly helps ear pressure and tinnitus Internally medicines like Dashmoolarishta or Maharasnadi kwath help reduce deep seated inflammation and Vata pain Gandharvahastadi taila at night can help if digestion is sluggish because gut and ear are strongly connected Avoid very cold foods curd at night ice drinks excess sugar and packaged food Prefer warm freshly cooked meals ginger cumin ajwain and adequate hydration Because this has been present for seven years I would strongly advise one proper ENT evaluation along with an audiometry and tympanometry to check if there is fluid retraction or structural damage Ayurveda works best when we know the exact stage If needed Panchakarma therapies like nasya or karna poorana done properly under guidance can give very good results even in chronic cases Do not ignore the tinnitus but also do not panic Chronic cases take time but consistent treatment can definitely reduce blockage pain and muffled hearing If you want you can tell me whether you have sinus issues frequent colds acidity neck stiffness or stress and I can guide you more precisely for your constitution and condition

🩺 Step 1: Basic Evaluation (Very Important) Before or along with treatment: ENT check-up Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA) Tympanometry 👉 This confirms middle ear pressure and rules out permanent damage. 🌿 Step 2: Ayurvedic Internal Medicines (8–12 weeks) (These are classical, safe, commonly available) Dashmool Kwath / Kashayam 15 ml + equal warm water Twice daily after food 👉 Reduces chronic inflammation Sitopaladi Churna ½ tsp with honey Twice daily 👉 Helps mucus clearance from ear–nose pathway Yograj Guggulu 1 tablet twice daily after meals 👉 Helpful for long-standing Vata-Kapha disorders Brahmi Vati (plain) 1 tablet at night 👉 Helps tinnitus & nerve support 👂 Step 3: Local Ayurvedic Therapy (Very Important) 1. Nasya (Best treatment for Eustachian tube) Oil: Anu Taila / Shadbindu Taila Dose: 2 drops in each nostril Morning, empty stomach Duration: 21 days, repeat after gap 👉 This directly opens nasal–ear channels. 2. Karnapuran (Ear oiling) – Alternate days Oil: Bilva Taila / Warm Tila Taila 2–3 drops in affected ear Lie sideways for 10 minutes 🌬️ Step 4: Exercises (Daily – Non-negotiable) Steam inhalation (plain or ajwain) – once daily Valsalva maneuver (gentle ear popping) – 3–4 times/day Chewing gum / yawning frequently 👉 These help normalize ear pressure. ❄️ Step 5: Lifestyle & Protection Protect ear from cold wind (cotton plug in winter) Avoid cold drinks, ice cream Do not insert earbuds or pins Avoid forceful nose blowing.

Hello I get how frustrating it must be dealing with a blocked ear for ages – that constant muffled hearing, pain when it’s cold, and the ringing sound can really get you down. The cool thing is, Ayurveda can help if you tackle it the right way! YOUR CONCERN – Right ear’s Eustachian tube’s been blocked for 7 years – Sounds are muffled/slow – Pain gets worse in the cold – Ringing in the ear – Haven’t tried anything yet AYURVEDIC UNDERSTANDING It looks like a Vata + Kapha issue in your ear canal, causing a blockage. – Cold makes Vata act up – Then, sticky Kapha blocks the tube – Nerves get annoyed – = Pain + ringing + feeling heavy WHY IT’S STICKING AROUND – Mucus is super thick – Nerves are extra sensitive – The tube hasn’t been properly cleared – Ear drops alone aren’t enough AYURVEDIC PLAN OF TREATMENT (AYURVEDA TO THE RESCUE) Nasya (Super Important) This clears the Eustachian tube. – What to use: Anu Taila – How: 2 drops in each nostril every morning – (Do it on an empty stomach, while lying down) – How long: 6–8 weeks Karnapoorana (Ear Oil) – What to use: Bilwadi Taila or Ksheerabala Taila – How: 2 drops in the right ear – When: Before bed, 5 days a week – This calms irritated nerves and the ringing. INTERNAL MEDICATION 1 Dashmoolarishta – 15 ml twice a day after eating 2 Trayodashang Guggulu – 2 tablets twice a day 3 Godanti Bhasma – 250 mg twice a day How long: 8–12 weeks These calms inflammation and help your nerves work again. STEAM – Daily: – Steam with Ajwain or Eucalyptus – Warm towel on your face and ears – This melts Kapha and opens things up. FOOD & HABITS – Don’t: ❌ Cold drinks/Ice cream/Curd at night/ AC or cold wind – Do: ✔ Warm water/Ginger, black pepper/Light, hot food – Cover your ears when it’s cold. WHEN WILL YOU FEEL BETTER? – Pain & feeling heavy: 2–3 weeks – Muffled sound: 4–6 weeks – Ringing: 6–10 weeks It’ll take time since it’s been 7 years, but it can get better. WHEN YOU MIGHT NEED PANCHAKARMA If Nasya + meds don’t fully clear things up in 2 months: Virechana + Nasya therapy can clear the tube for good. You don’t have to live with this forever – it’s a Vata-Kapha thing that can be treated. Stick with it, and you’ll hear clearly again! Warm Regards Dr. Snehal Vidhate

Hello, Your long-standing right-sided Eustachian tube blockage for 7 years, with cold-induced pain, constant muffled hearing, and tinnitus (ringing), indicates chronic Eustachian Tube Dysfunction (ETD) with possible middle ear pressure imbalance and mild chronic inflammation. In Ayurvedic terms, this reflects Vata–Kapha Dushti in the Shrotra Srotas (ear channels), with obstruction (Sanga) and dryness aggravated by cold exposure. It will be very helpful if you can get an examination of your ear — especially the External Auditory Canal (EAC) and Tympanic Membrane (eardrum) — by an ENT specialist, as this will guide the exact line of treatment. Your treatment will focus on: • Reducing inflammation • Clearing blockage • Improving middle ear ventilation • Nourishing ear nerves • Preventing further hearing loss 🔎 Recommended Investigations (Important since this is a 7-year condition) Otoscopic examination – assessment of EAC and tympanic membrane Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA) – assess hearing loss Tympanometry – check middle ear pressure If needed: X-ray / CT of sinuses or nasopharynx 💊 Internal Medicines Phase 1 – 21 days (Reduce blockage + inflammation + improve tube function) 1.Sitopaladi Churna – ½ tsp twice daily with honey after meals 2.Dashamoola Rasayanam – 1 tsp twice daily after food 3.Kanchanar Guggulu – 1 tablet twice daily after meals 4.Brahmi Vati (plain) – 1 tablet at bedtime Phase 2 – 45 days (Nerve nourishment + hearing support + Rasayana) 1.Sarivadi Vati – 1 tablet twice daily after meals 2.Ashwagandha Churna – ½ tsp with warm milk at bedtime 3.Chyawanprash – 1 tsp every morning 🌿 External & Supportive Therapies 1.Karna Poorana (Ear Oil Therapy) - only if Typanic membrane is intact – warm bilwadi tailam – 3–4 drops in the affected ear, once daily (preferably morning), for 7–10 days 2.Steam Inhalation – once daily with plain water or a pinch of turmeric 3.Warm salt pack over ear and neck – 10 minutes daily 🥗 Diet & Lifestyle Recommendations ❌ Avoid Cold foods, ice water, refrigerated items Curd at night Exposure to cold wind, AC directly on face Smoking, passive smoke, dust ✅ Include Warm, freshly cooked meals Ginger, garlic, turmeric in cooking Warm water sipping throughout the day Nasal oiling (2 drops Anu Taila in each nostril daily) 🧘🏻‍♂️ Yoga & Pranayama Gentle Asanas Vajrasana Bhujangasana Setu Bandhasana Pranayama Anulom Vilom – 10 minutes Bhramari – 5 minutes (excellent for ear pressure balance) 🕉️ Follow-up & Duration • Pain relief and reduced fullness: 10–14 days • Hearing clarity improvement: 4–6 weeks • Tinnitus reduction: gradual over 6–8 weeks • Chronic ETD requires 3 months of consistent care ✨ With proper medication, ear therapies, lifestyle correction, and regular follow-up, your condition is treatable and improvable, even after many years. ⚠️ If you experience sudden hearing loss, severe vertigo, discharge, or worsening pain — consult an ENT immediately. With kind regards, Dr. Sumi MS(Ayu)

I UNDERSTAND YOUR CONCERN BECAUSE LIVING WITH A BLOCKED EAR AND MUFFLED HEARING FOR SO MANY YEARS CAN BE VERY UNCOMFORTABLE AND WORRYING IN AYURVEDA THIS CONDITION IS OFTEN RELATED TO VATA AND KAPHA IMBALANCE AFFECTING THE EAR AND SINUS PATHWAYS WHICH LEADS TO DRYNESS BLOCKAGE SENSITIVITY TO COLD AND RINGING SOUND SINCE IT IS CHRONIC THE FOCUS SHOULD BE ON CLEARING THE BLOCKAGE STRENGTHENING THE EAR NERVES AND CORRECTING THE UNDERLYING IMBALANCE REGULAR STEAM INHALATION WARM OIL APPLICATION AROUND THE EAR AND NECK PROTECTION FROM COLD ARE VERY IMPORTANT ALONG WITH THIS INTERNAL MEDICINES THAT REDUCE KAPHA AND BALANCE VATA ARE USUALLY REQUIRED FOR SOME TIME TO SEE LASTING IMPROVEMENT IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT TO ASSESS DIGESTION SINUS HEALTH AND IMMUNITY BECAUSE EAR PROBLEMS RARELY EXIST ALONE I WOULD ADVISE PROPER EVALUATION AND A PLANNED TREATMENT RATHER THAN IGNORING IT AS WITH THE RIGHT APPROACH IMPROVEMENT IS POSSIBLE EVEN IN LONG STANDING CASES

HELLO, The Eustachiaan tube is a small canal that connects the middle ear to the back of your nose and upper throat. Its job is to -equalise pressure in your middle ear -drain fluid from the ear -protect the ear from infections When this tube gets blocked for a Long term (as in your case, 7 years) it can lead to -Muffled hearing (like listening underwater) -Ear pain, especially in cold weather -tinnitus (ringing in the ears) -occassional dizziness or pressure Causes of blockage can include -chronic sinus congeston -allergies -weak Eustachian tube muscles -chronic inflammation or infection -growths like polyps (rare but need ruling out cause) Since your blockage is long standing it is considered chronic Eustachian tube dysfunction TREATMENT GOALS Ayurevda views this as a kapha-vata imbalance, where -KAPHA-> mucus congestion and blockage -VATA-> nerve and pressure related pain -clear the blockage in the Eustachian tube -reduce inflammation and pain -improve hearing and reduce tinnitus -prevent recurrence through lifestyle and diet -strenthen ear and sinus health naturally INTERNAL MEDICATIONS 1) TRIPHALA CHURNA= 1 tsp at night with warm water =detoxifies body, improves digestion, Balances Vata, reduces inflammation 2) SITOPALADI CHURNA= 1/2 tsp with honey 2-3 times daily after meals =Reduces Kapha congestion, clears mucus, helps Eustachian tube function 3) SHIRISHADI VATI= 2 tab twice daily after meals =anti inflammatory, supports sinus and ear health 4) KSHEERABALA TAILA= 5-10drops internally with warm milk =nourishes Vata, reduces chronic dryness or nerve related ear pain DURATIO= 3-6 months NASAL THERAPY Instill 2 drops of Anu taila in each nostril daily morning =lubricates nasal passages, Reduces Kapha congestion, helps pressure regulation in ears EAR THERAPY -Ksheerbala taille 5-8 drops in affected ear daily for 14 days =directly soothes the ear, reduces muffled hearing, and improves circulation LIFESTYLE CHANGES -avoid cold air exposure, cold drinks, and ice -elevate the head while sleeping -avoid dust, smoke, and allergens -maintain good hydration for mucus thnning YOGA AND PRANAYAM -Kapalbhati= clears sinuses, improves airflow -Anulom vilom= Balances Vata and kapha, improves circulation -Jaw exercise= chewing, yawing, gentle jaw movement to open Eustachian tube -Ear massage= gently massage area around ears to improve circulation DIET -favour warm, light, easily digestible foods -include ginger, black pepper, turmeric for anti inflammatory effect -avoid cold, oily, heavy, and excessively sweet foods -avoid excessive dairy if it increases congestion HOME REMEDIES -Steam inhalation= add eucalyptus or ginger to boiling water and inhale -Warm compress =place warm towel over ear for pain relief -Ginger or garlic drops= mildly warm for inflammation, avoid if ear drum is performed -Yawning, swallowing, or gently blowing nose= helps Eustachian tube open naturally Chronic Eustachian tube blockage rarely resolves on its own after 7 years Ayurveda can support symptom relief, reduce congestion, and strengthen ear health, but an ENT evaluation is essential for safety and ruling out complication Combining internal, nasal therapy, ear oil, lifestyle changes, Yoga and diet can significantly improve your condition over months DO FOLLOW HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL THANK YOU DR.
