- No, I haven't thought about it

Doctors' responses

From an Ayurvedic perspective, kesar in very small amounts (2–4 strands in milk) is generally considered safe during pregnancy and is often used as a mild Rasayana for mood, complexion, and digestion. Only excessive or medicinal doses are cautioned due to its potential ushna virya (warming nature). In such minimal dietary use during early pregnancy, it is not considered harmful to the garbhini or fetus. – but on safe side try to avoid it

Saffron (Kesar) is considered ushna (warming) and is usually introduced after the first trimester, in small amounts. In your case You took only 3–4 strands daily, which is a very mild dose You have no symptoms (bleeding, pain, discomfort) This is generally considered safe and unlikely to cause harm Ayurvedic perspective Small quantities of saffron: Support digestion and mood Improve complexion (varnya) But excess in early pregnancy is avoided due to its heating nature What you should do now No need to panic or take any corrective treatment You may pause saffron till 4th month, then restart in small dose if needed Continue prenatal care, balanced diet, and hydration

Generallt very low quantity is safe but that varies acoording to persons prakriti and also seasons. It is not advicable tot ake saffron as a little excess quantity can cause abortion. Better SAFE than regrets.

1. The Dosage was Minimal According to the Ayurvedic doctors, 3–4 strands of saffron per day is considered a very mild, dietary dose. In Ayurveda, saffron is considered Ushna (warming) in nature. The caution against taking it in the first trimester usually applies to excessive or medicinal amounts, which can increase internal heat. Small amounts used for flavor or color in milk are generally viewed as safe. 2. Lack of Symptoms The primary concern with high doses of saffron in early pregnancy is the risk of uterine contractions. Since you have experienced no symptoms (such as cramping, spotting, or bleeding) and are now in your second trimester (13–20 weeks), the most critical period has passed without any adverse effects. Adv- You can definitely use it in low doses like 3-4 strands.

Hello, It is completely understandable to feel a bit of a panic when you realize you’ve been doing something that is often debated during pregnancy. While it is true that many traditional practices advise caution with saffron (Kesar) during the first trimester, consuming 3–4 strands daily is generally considered a culinary amount rather than a medicinal or toxic dose. The Safety Context In large, concentrated medicinal doses, saffron can act as a uterine stimulant. However, most healthcare professionals agree that small amounts used in food or milk like the few strands you were taking rarely cause issues. Since you have reached 13 weeks, you are now entering the second trimester, which is traditionally when saffron is introduced in many cultures to support well-being. In Ayurveda, Saffron is classified as Ushna (heating) in nature. During the first trimester, the focus is on maintaining Sheeta (cooling) and Sthira (stable) properties to support the implantation and early development of the fetus (Garbha Sthapana). Because Kesar can increase “heat” in the body, it is usually avoided until the pregnancy is stable (after the 3rd month). If you are not experiencing any cramping, spotting, or discomfort, it is likely that the small amount did not disturb the equilibrium of your pregnancy. To support the stability of the pregnancy and calm any “heat” or anxiety, Mathrukalpam is a choice from Ayurveda. It is a restorative tonic specifically formulated for expectant mothers. Prescription: 1. Mathrukalpam Take 1 teaspoon (approx. 10–12 grams) twice daily after food, followed by a cup of lukewarm milk.

Hello, First, relax- what you took is NOT harmful in your case 3-4 strands of saffron daily in milk is a SAFE quantity You have no symptoms + healthy pregnancy till now-> very resurring Why people say ‘avoid in 1st trimester’? Because -high doses of saffron may stimulate uterus -but this is dose dependent Your intake -3-4 strands= very mild, food level dose -traditionally even used in small amounts in pregnancy When saffron can be risky only if -taken in large medicinal doses (500mg + daily) -combined with other strong herbs -or if there is history of bleeding/ high risk pregnancy -none of this applies to you Ayurvedic view -Small quantity saffron -improves digestion -supports circulation -traditionally believed to support fetal nourishment But In early pregnancy, we avoid anything heating in excess-> hence caution What you should do now You can -stop for now (optional, for peace of mind) OR -continue later in 2nd trimester occassionally (2-3 strands, not daily) Better focus now Continue -prenatal vitamins -balanced diet Add -milk + ghee -almonds (soaked) -fruits When to worry If you ever notice -bleeding -abdominal pain Then consult immediately not related to your saffron intake, but generally Your case= safe exposure + no symptoms There is No evidence that such small intake causes harm No need to panic or do anything corrective No harm done, You and baby are safe Do follow Hope this might be helpful Thank you
