What Are the Best Medicines for Mouth Ulcers, and Are There Natural Remedies? - #15186

Anonymous

I’ve been dealing with mouth ulcers for the past few weeks, and they are extremely painful. They make it difficult to eat, drink, and even talk at times. I’ve tried using over-the-counter mouth ulcer medicine, but the relief is only temporary. What are the best mouth ulcer medicines that actually speed up healing? Are prescription treatments necessary, or do home remedies work just as well? I also read that mouth ulcers can be caused by stress, acidic foods, vitamin deficiencies, or weak digestion. Could my diet be making the ulcers worse? Does Ayurveda have any herbs, pastes, or gargles that help heal mouth ulcers naturally? I’ve heard that honey, turmeric, and aloe vera work well—do they actually help? If anyone has found an effective mouth ulcer medicine or natural treatment, please share what worked for you!

Mouth ulcers can indeed be very painful and troublesome. Over-the-counter treatments, like topical gels or ointments containing corticosteroids or anesthetics, may provide temporary relief but often don't speed up healing significantly. Prescription treatments like stronger corticosteroid ointments or mouthwashes, and in severe cases, oral medications, may help reduce inflammation and promote faster healing. However, natural remedies can also offer relief, especially if the ulcers are mild or recurrent. Honey is known for its soothing and antibacterial properties, turmeric has anti-inflammatory benefits, and aloe vera can reduce pain and promote healing. Diet can contribute to mouth ulcers, especially if you’re consuming acidic or spicy foods, or lacking key nutrients like vitamin B12, iron, or folate, which can weaken the mucosal lining. Stress and poor digestion can also trigger or worsen ulcers. Ayurveda offers several natural treatments, such as gargling with a saltwater solution or using Ayurvedic pastes made from turmeric or neem. These herbs help calm inflammation and promote tissue healing. If your ulcers persist or become frequent, it’s best to consult with a healthcare provider to rule out underlying conditions and consider appropriate treatments.
