In Ayurveda, hyperpigmentation or skin darkening, especially around sensitive areas like the mouth, eyes, and cheeks, is often linked to an imbalance in the Pitta dosha. Pitta governs the skin's complexion and its overall health, and when aggravated, it can lead to excessive heat in the body, resulting in conditions like dark spots, pigmentation, and uneven skin tone. At 47, the combination of hormonal changes, metabolic shifts, and possibly underlying imbalances in digestion or detoxification could be contributing to the persistence of these symptoms.
To address this, an Ayurvedic approach would focus on both internal and external treatments. Internally, herbs like Turmeric, Neem, Triphala, and Amla can help balance Pitta and detoxify the body, promoting clearer, more even skin. These herbs also have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that can help lighten dark spots and improve skin tone over time. Additionally, a diet that reduces excess Pitta—avoiding overly spicy, sour, or oily foods—while emphasizing cooling, hydrating, and antioxidant-rich foods like cucumbers, coconut, and fresh fruits, can support skin healing.
Externally, Ayurvedic oils and pastes made from ingredients like Sandalwood, Rose, and Saffron are known to reduce pigmentation and soothe the skin. Applying these in the form of masks or oils may help lighten dark areas and restore your skin's natural radiance. Regular practices like gentle facial massages with herbal oils, along with proper sun protection, can also assist in gradually restoring the skin's tone.
Since the condition has persisted for years despite treatment, I would recommend consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner who can tailor a personalized treatment plan that addresses both the external symptoms and internal imbalances that may be contributing to the issue.

Hyperpigmentation can be stubborn, that's frustrating, I get it. Especially if it's persisted despite treatment, yikes. Let's talk Ayurveda—because every imbalance has a root cause. It could stem from dosha stuff, maybe Pitta's flaring up causing higher melanin production in skin. Pitta & Vata doshas might be the culprits there. Let's address this in a way that's simple and possible for you.
First off, let's look at your diet. Supportive foods and routines really matter! Eating cooling foods, think cucumber, watermelon, and coconut water, can help calm that fiery Pitta in you. Ditch spicy, fried stuff, too much caffeine or alcohol—they might sneakily aggravate your doshas causing more pigmentation issues.
Next, consider using an ubtan daily. This old-school skincare method is really worth a shot! You could use turmeric, chickpea flour, and a bit of milk or water to form a paste. Apply lightly on the affected areas—leave it for maybe 10-15 minutes, wash gently. If turmeric stains a bit, don’t worry, it fades.
You might want to oil pull if you're not already doing it. Yup, swish sesame oil about a tbsp every morning on an empty stomach for 10-15 mins. It might sound odd but it helps detox your system from within establish balance. Cracked at first, but you'll get used to it. Internally, you benefit from stuff like Triphala powder. It's a common Ayurvedic herb blend—aids digestion, which can influence your external skin health wildly. Maybe like 1/2 tsp with warm water before bed could help.
And make sure you’re hydrated—sometimes sounds too simple, but seriously drink enough water. Maybe avoid sun exposure during peak hours (10 am to 4 pm), and if you must go out, cover up well.
Oh, and Aloe Vera gel as a topical treatment is legendary in Ayurveda! Apply fresh gel daily, gently massage and leave it on. It soothes and helps even out skin tone naturally over time.
If symptoms persist or get weird, you gotta check back with your doctor. Sometimes simple approaches effect big changes but it's good to have someone keeping an eye on it all. Hope these tips aren't overwhelming, just take it step by step!
